Campo better than Carrick?
Good article in the Observer about England team selection and tactics.

You don't see the best of Rooney if you play him on his own up front, he doesn't like to play with his back to the goal, and he doesn't look fit enough yet to take on such a responsibility anyway. The 4-1-4-1 formation Eriksson is proposing is similar to the one Bolton use, but Michael Carrick is no Ivan Campo and Rooney is certainly not Kevin Davies.
The usual snide dig at Davies, but good words for old curly mop. C'mon Sam, pay him a few bob more, and get him signed.

I didn't read that as a dig at Davies - he said Rooney is not effective alone up front with his back to the goal - this clearly implies that Davies is effective that way.warthog wrote:Good article in the Observer about England team selection and tactics.

That's the way it read to me too Monty. Quite a complement.Montreal Wanderer wrote: I didn't read that as a dig at Davies - he said Rooney is not effective alone up front with his back to the goal - this clearly implies that Davies is effective that way.

Paul Wilson has a history of taking pot shots at Bolton, which is why I consider it as a dig. You could, of course, interpret the comment as you suggest. The significant thing for me, was the acknowledgment from a non-Bolton source, that Campo is a class act.Montreal Wanderer wrote:I didn't read that as a dig at Davies - he said Rooney is not effective alone up front with his back to the goal - this clearly implies that Davies is effective that way.warthog wrote:Good article in the Observer about England team selection and tactics.
