England V Andorra

Post by Mackem_and_proud » Sat Sep 02, 2006 7:49 pm

Fair enough we won 5 nout but big woop Andorra are a pub team!
This results against a team whos population can fit in old trafford will give us that winning mentality that we will need for the upcoming competition!

i was expecting a drumming of 8, 9 nil!
Was a good results but VERY boring

Discuss?

It would be nice to draw some conclusions from this, but the of opposition made that impossible. Robinson needen't have turned out as they only got near out eighteen yard box once in the whole game. About the only relevant fact to come from this game was the remark that all the minnows in European football should have a qualfying league of their own and just allow the winners into the competition. Cruel maybe, but on this display, maybe also a fact.

Owen Hargreaves was immense in front of the back four and was unlucky not to score two great goals. Gerard was back to his best for effort, passing skills and attacking flair. His goal was a gem. Crouch did the business up front with Defoe and Wes Brown was mainly untested in the central role. What he did he looked comfortable with and is a better option than Ferdinand for my money. Lennon was as sharp and dangerous as ever when he got on and Downing and Richardson did well on the left. It remains to be seen whether it will all work as well against some quality opposition. Andora came with a reputation as a physical side? They played like a bunch of girls, the Owen Hargreaves "foul" a classic example.

Two games, nine goals for McClaren so far. Not much more to say.
Sorted :D

i think that the game was good, boring in parts but not alot, its a game that we could show everyone what we could and can play like a team that has jelled together knows each persons runs in to positions and that we are a force not to be reckoned with so thumbs up for me COME ON ENGLAND :pissed: :pissed:
Come on the mighty Wanderers

I don't tend to get too excited about England unless its a relatively important match..the whites come first, roll on next Saturday!!

Thought Downing and Neville were poor in possession. It would have been nice to have really spanked such dire opposition, but I suppose you can't complain too much. Certainly we've seen nothing on which we can judge Steve McClaren yet.

at least we took our chances well. I fear goal differential could be huge with people piling it on against them twice.

I'm sure Cowdrill could have done a job in the Andorran back four.

It's a joke that we had a Wanderers-free weekend for that shite. Still, it probably works in our favour with injuries, getting the Elk fit etc.

Yep - nothing more irritating than having to go two weeks without going to the match, but likewise given our injuries to the likes of Sissoko, Riise, Carragher... we're quite happy for a week off, to be honest, to steel ourselves ahead of playing the blueshite.

As for England I reckon 5 goals is about par against that side - a 3 or 4-0 win would probably not have been enough, whereas 6 or 7-0 would have been a good effort. Nice to see Crouch scoring a couple, too ;)

i'm not impressed with downing- if you can't go past a man when you're playing a poor sunday league team then you've got problems.

Until he scored I thought defoe was poor too.

And Lampard  totally anonymous.

Crouch has a ridiculous scoring record but against muppets, still to be convinced he's international class.

Only Hargreaves and Gerrard truly came out of this with any credit for me. These two looked as though they were for taking apart a mickey mouse team and showing their class.

good to see Mclaren off the bench and barking orders at the players to get the ball wide.

agreed, there's no way he should be in the squad, let alone the team. As the pundits said, he needed to score, i didnt notice him do much else, but no doubt now he got a couple he'll still be included next time
Nay-Nay: so good they named me twice

he did well to help create the first crouch goal!

apart from that and his two goals,
the first one was superbly set up, his second one bit o' luck was on his side and managed to hold off the two defenders.

I reckon Johnson and crouch partnership next game

Defoe has 4 league away goals in 2 years.

I think that speaks for itself.

For now he's certainly a better bet for me than Richardson, but would any of us really put him in ahead of a fit Joe Cole?

Keep him in the squad as the left-footed option, by all means, but he shows no sign of becoming a player of international class.
