A few things:
Prepare for a nightmare if the game is on a Sunday because the trains are only every hour and there are no special arrangements to get rid of us.
Night games can also be problematic.
Trains on a Saturday leave at 13:07, 13:41, 14:07, 14:41 (too late to get there on time)
When there is a game the ones at 13.37 and 14.37 are supposed to stop.
However one time I asked a train guard if the train was stopping at the Reebok, he said no becuase we weren't playing even though we actually were.
Check the service is running at least 3 hours before kick off, once I turned up and there was only a bus service to the station so I was late by 30 minutes.
If the service is not running do not try to get home by the rail replacement bus as it won't come near the Reebok for 3 hours. (I found this out whilst helping a Japenese Wanderer through our great transport network)
Trains usually turn up with 2 carriages and are overcrowded, worse than the tube when the game is not at 3pm on a Saturday.
If you want to save a bit of money you could probably get away with not buying a ticket, I condone it because the service is so poor. They don't realise Bolton/away fans don't all go back to Bolton.
For local away games the train stations aren't located close to the grounds. Blackburn is about 10-15 minutes, Wigan about 15-20.
