Is Little Britain Funny

Post by Batman » Fri Nov 17, 2006 10:07 pm

I was just watching the DVD of series one - excellent

Then put on Series 2 - not so good

Saw Series 3 on telly - absolute piss

Saw the Live Tour DVD - rehashed dogshit sketches from S2-3, with no originality or new interpretations

Therefore, in the greatest tradition of modern science, I have concluded that Little Britain is crap and unfunny. I really like Matt Lucas in Shooting Stars, I thought Rock Profile was superb, but by god Little Britain is crap.

There is only one British comedy that has gotten better as it went along series by series, and that is Blackadder. Little Britain simply haven't changed anything to make itself better.

I must admit the last series was a bit stale. Loved the first two though.

CH, I'm impressed.

My favourite one too - Kilmer as Batman, Bale as Wayne.

If this is true, it's shocking, since each series is like four episodes. No wonder we love British comedy so much, I think I could put out 200 minutes of brilliant comedy.

Once you've seen the first episode in a new series of Little Britain, you basically seen the entire series. It just seems to be an excercise in - How many ways can we find to deliver exactly the same punchline?

You can be a girl doing it, like er Catherine Tate. Act stolen from Little Britain but even less funny.

Catherine Tate's "bovvered" (Lauren?) character predates Vicki Pollard - so it could be argued that it was the other way around...

are you sure about that one? Vicky Pollard dates back to the first LB radio show in about 2001. As far as I can yell Lauren was only even "fly girl" in series 1 of CT in 2004. Tate only had her first solo Edinbugh show in 2001.

No - I'm not - but I do remember hearing Tate interviewed and her being asked that question and she said there was no connection between the characters - she says she's been doing stand-up for years with the character... she said it was before she'd seen Vicki Pollard, and she doesn't see pollard and lauren as "the same" - I guess I accepted her word for it...

I also remember hearing Matt Lucas asked the same question - and him saying something pretty similar - not that they had the character first - but that the characters are different - which, let's face it, they are...

I'm quite happy to accept they were both created independently - and I doubt derivativeness can be proved very easily either way..

all comedy is derivative - and no less funny for it,

I happen to find Little Britain and Catherine Tate a bit tiresome (LB - beyond the first series kind of ran out of ideas - as you and batman have said)

Tate is much the same - and her sketches go on far longer - and have the potential to be even more tiresome.

I DO like Tate's Essex couple, though - (as I live in Essex, now) - bang on the money!! - and the woman who panics every time something happens - there are so many characters down here who are simply petrified of the world outside - some of it is well observed...
