Agreed. VERY gentle jog. If you had a bike I'd suggest a quick spin on that. does wonders for me.

Manflu issues aside, I'm annoyed with myself for having got into a position where a simple Parkrun has left me with sore legs - I'm itching to get back out now.Gary the Enfield wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Personally, I'd say go for it. Happens to all of us. I'm getting used to doing longer and longer runs. If I tried to do a quick 5k now I'd be sore the following day. Don't beat yourself up. When you've had your gentle jog do some gentle stretches too to warm down.
I would tell you to take some Ibuprofen and drink plenty of water, but I'm not medically trained so I won't.

To be honest, I probably don't help myself in that I rarely stretch, my warm-up's the length of my drive and my warm-down's the walk home from wherever I happen to finish, so generally 200 metres from home.

You may look a bit of a tit but you could try some dynamic stretching before you start. Start with a brisk walk then 10 seconds up on your toes, back to a walk then 10 secs on your heels. Repeat 3 times. Then do some heel flicks (hands behind your back palms outwards and kick your legs up so your heels hit your hands. Then high knees which is basically an exaggerated jog where you bring your right knee up and raise your left arm in a piston motion, then left knee and right arm up. Keep this going for 20 seconds. The whole routine shouldn't take more than 5 minutes and you'll be warm(ish) for the run.
There's lots more.......

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the angry thread. I'd expect a reduction in the cost of breakfast if this comes in at Leverhulme

Re: The athletics/running thread
A colleague was just relaying this very tale to me. Errr, don't we already own the parks we run on? I'd like to think that local authorities and the likes would champion things like Parkruns, the wankers!Harry Genshaw wrote:Wasn't sure whether to put this in the angry thread. I see that Bristol City Council's a Labour council by the way.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I don't know on what basis they can charge a certain group of people running together at a certain time?
Shirley, you'd have to charge all users or none at all.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Didn't realise Parkrun had paid directors. I can see their point if so, and presumably it's parkrun they'd be charging (who'd then pass it on all mock aghast).

Re: The athletics/running thread
My thoughts exactly. I've ran at three different venues now and each have been keen to stress before the run that we do not have exclusive use of the park and issued a reminder to be considerate to other park users. If they do try to charge us then all that will happen is we'll just take to the streets.Beefheart wrote:I don't know on what basis they can charge a certain group of people running together at a certain time?Shirley, you'd have to charge all users or none at all.

Agreed. What a load of nonsense.
Re: The athletics/running thread
They'll back down or the parkrun will just set up elsewhere.
As for paid directors, it's massive, of course they'll need paid employees. If they were paying dividends that would be a different matter.
I'm sure no-one at that particular pr gets paid anyway.

So, who's there tomorrow? Bring your purse in case Morris has already erected a turnstile on the gate

Where does it start from? I live near Leverhulme and run there a few times a week but don't usually get out of the house that early on a Saturday.Bruce Rioja wrote:So, who's there tomorrow? Bring your purse in case Morris has already erected a turnstile on the gate

Starts and finishes on the track. You'll need to register with parkrun UK and then download and print off a barcode if you want your time recording. That's if you haven't already registered.Beefheart wrote:Where does it start from? It starts on the running track at 09:00 prompt, Beefy. If you get there earlier you can warm-up/stretch/ perv on the track.Beefheart wrote:Where does it start from?
