Oh come on.....he's not even the worst president of the last decade!bobo the clown wrote:So ... last night the "Leader of the Free Wirkd" flew into the 51st State to tell us what to do.
The worst President since Niton ... & there are arguments to say he's been worse than him ... the one who decided the US was bored with the middle east, ABD picked a fight with Israel to boot .... good outcome there Barak, AND with Europe, so Russia tested our edges. But he'd focus on Asia ... with f'call outcome.
Insults the UK .... & has his minions scurrying around to "unsay" what he said. Made zero progress on his gun control campaigns and not closed Guatanamo despite 8 years trying.
Now tells the UK what to do about Europe & says we are better fighting terrorism whilst in it. How would he know.
At least he improved his golf handicap whilst in office.
He has an opinion. He's as entitled to voice that as anyone else. I'd rather hear from someone with insight and a high intelligence level than some of the absolute pondscum we've had to endure on the subject.

Re: The Politics Thread
Key global ally has an opinion about an issue that might affect his country's affairs shocker... how very dare he then say anything... boooooooooooooooo!
the interpretation of someone sharing an opinion as "telling us what to do" is bonkers!
and while we're here - Boris reckons that Obama is "hypocritical" as (he claims) America would never pool or share sovereignty... WHAT??? what IS the US but a federation of states that hold some government at state level and pool sovereignty to make "federal" government? Why else would the OUT campaign have spent so many years claiming that europe is becoming the United Staes of Europe???

Re: The Politics Thread
How dare the leader of a Federal Republic of United States, in which some legislative powers are sacrificed at a state level in order to facilitate greater economic and political union, say we should remain in the EU! What a fecking hypocrite!
Re: The Politics Thread
Some people, it seems, appear to have forgotten just how the 'united' states of America came about.
Or how the Union of Socialist Republics came into being.
This time the weapons is good old cash, fired by those with the same aim of concentrating power over the masses, the elitist 1%.

I don't think anyone has forgotten that.
what I DO think is that it is VERY odd for Boris to protest so loudly that America knows nothing abour pooling sovereignty and would never do it - when the bold fact is that America is the very definition of pooled sovereignty!

I did wonder at the Beeb's notion that Obama will feel entitled to comment given tens of thousands of Americans died on the battlefields of Europe in WWII. Since millions of Soviets died there too I'm assuming Putin will be asked his two pennorth

back to really important politics...

There are potty-heads on facebook attacking labour for their outcry at Cameron's shameful joining-in with Zac Goldsmith's poisonous mayoral campaign at PMQs...
Peter Oborne (yes - tory Peter Oborne - thinking-man's tory!) says the following - with which I wholeheartedly agree - shame on you Cameron for sinking to such shameful depths and using your PM-office to do it...
Peter Oborne (yes - tory Peter Oborne - thinking-man's tory!) says the following - with which I wholeheartedly agree - shame on you Cameron for sinking to such shameful depths and using your PM-office to do it...
Oborne says Goldsmith's campaign for mayor has become "the most repulsive I have ever seen as a political reporter" and says he will vote "proudly" for Sadiq Khan:
"His campaign has concentrated on Khan’s religion, alleging that Khan is a friend and apologist for "extremists" and cannot therefore be trusted to run a great city like London.
These claims are absurd. Khan is a mainstream Labour politician who has dedicated his career to advocating centrist views. He voted for same-sex marriage, thus estranging socially conservative elements in London’s Muslim communities. He loudly opposes a boycott of Israeli goods. He is a strong opponent of anti-Semitism. He has campaigned constantly against reactionary and so-called "extremist" forces within the Muslim communities.
None of this is good enough for Goldsmith’s Tory campaign, which has pumped out a constant barrage of propaganda portraying Khan as the pawn of sinister Islamist forces. Very worryingly, this policy comes right from the very top."

Er, you appear to have posted no evidence that DC or his office have done anything at all??

From the Guardian.Cameron laid into Khan during prime minister’s questions, saying the Labour mayoral contender had nine times shared a platform with a radical imam called Suliman Gani, who he said supported ”IS” (Islamic State).
In the Commons, Cameron said he was “concerned about Labour’s candidate as mayor of London who has appeared again and again and again” on a stage with people he described as extremists.
After being interrupted by cries of “racist” by Labour MPs, Cameron continued: “The leader of the Labour party is saying it is disgraceful. Let me tell him, Suliman Gani – the honourable member for Tooting [Sadiq Khan] has appeared on a platform with him nine times. This man supports IS [Islamic State]. I think they are shouting down this point because they don’t want to hear the truth.”
And on BBC Khan says he regrets giving the impression he shared Gani's views
Gani worked against Khan previously because of his views on homosexuality.Sadiq was grilled by Brillo during last night’s BBC mayoral debate on his links to radical imam Suliman Gani, a well-known name to Guido readers. Khan insisted he did not regret appearing on a platform with Gani but confessed he gave the impression he subscribed to his extremist views:
Andrew Neil: “Suliman Gani, who’s a supporter of Islamic State. You appeared on a platform with him nine times. During one of these times you must have found out what he really believed in?”
Sadiq Khan: “There are lots of campaigns and issues that I’ve been involved in as the chair of Liberty, as a human rights lawyer and as a politician which had cross-party support…”
AN: “Do you regret appearing on platforms with people like that?”
SK: “No, I regret giving the impression I subscribe to their views…”
"If you cannot answer a man's argument, all it not lost; you can still call him vile names. " Elbert Hubbard.
Re: The Politics Thread
So in effect, Khan has legitimately been questioned as to why he chose to share a platform with a radical, IS supporting cleric? Not just once, but on 9 occassions? Sounds reasonable to me.

Then again when he's posted pictures of himself with errrr that'd be Zac Goldsmith wouldn't it? And he reckons he campaigned for the Tories last time out. One might suggest that persons in the house made of glass, might want to check before dispatching the housebrick.Bijou Bob wrote:So in effect, Khan has legitimately been questioned as to why he chose to share a platform with a radical, IS supporting cleric? IS and ISIL are not the same thing. Like the UK and EDL aren't the same thing.

Re: The Politics Thread
So what's the difference between IS & ISIL which would change a person's view of them ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The Politics Thread
Posting pictures of yourself standing next to someone and sharing a political platform are hardly the same thing and it doesn't matter if the Tories are throwing stones in the proverbial greenhouse, all that really matters to them is that they get enough mud to stick to Khan, if I might slightly mix metaphors.

Re: The Politics Thread
Aye, the PM's spokesperson didn't understand that question three times yesterday...Some folks on here want the UK to be "free of Europe" that would, according to them, give us things a State should have that are being taken away. I think they've every right to express those views. Wanting an Islamic State is no different. I'm ok with people wanting an Islamic State. Dunno how they're going to do it and I don't want it here, thank you. But anyone should be free to discuss what sort of state they want.bobo the clown wrote:So what's the difference between IS & ISIL which would change a person's view of them ?
Then there are means of going about it. ISIL/ISIS are a terrorist organization and I don't support there "rights" at all. If Goldsmith and Cameron were saying he was supportive of a terrorist organisation then fair dos. But they're not, as far as I can tell (and they've been asked many times to clarify)...
I've always been broadly supportive of a united Ireland. I'm not a supporter of the IRA.

You will never get a referendum asking if you wish to be part of an Islamic State.
