Nice to see the Kenyan's rise about all the drug in innuendo I must say.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Pretty much like me at parkrun.TANGODANCER wrote:Men;s marathon winner Kipchoge, finished llike a sprinter.Young girl who won the women's did much the same. Amazing stuff.

Re: The athletics/running thread
That was the greatest marathon performance ive seen. Better than tbe world record given that berlin is a quicker course. I met kipchoge once when I went to Kenya in 2007. He was still a track runner then. Won the 5000m at the age of 19 causing a huge shock by beating the great Bekele. I hope he wins in Rio as well. Like every other African runner I've met he was extremely friendly and down to earth despite his great talent.TANGODANCER wrote:Men;s marathon winner Kipchoge, finished llike a sprinter.Young girl who won the women's did much the same. Reckon you could manage the half? If I don't cripple myself on Ironman I quite fancy that.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Was just about to post something about that. I started running about 6/7 weeks ago and managed 12.5k last Saturday so I reckon I'd be up for a half marathon by September...not sure about a full Marathon mind.LeverEnd wrote:No, unfortunately.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:I know. Re: The athletics/running thread
I remember standing on Plodder Lane watching the B.M on a real baking hot day. Always got good support in Farnworth and you couldn't move in the local streets for parked cars whilst it was on. What you might call a popular event. This was the start on Beaumont Road in 1981 (from the Bolton News) ....LeverEnd wrote:I know. If if only my fecked up legs could carry me round. When is it? If its late September (not back in 83) I'll be up for it. BP, Bruce - could be a good target to aim for?

I'd have to get some serious training in, not to mention fitness levels.Harry Genshaw wrote:When is it? If its late September (not back in 83) I'll be up for it. BP, Bruce - could be a good target to aim for?

How much is it?
Re: The athletics/running thread
£30 + £1.50 booking fee. No idea how that compares to the average raceGary the Enfield wrote:Beefheart wrote:Registered and paid before I had chance to talk myself out of it.

Well in 'That' London you get a full marathon for £38.00
Perhaps it includes a free sports massage off LE's cousin?

Good manBeefheart wrote:Registered and paid before I had chance to talk myself out of it.

£30 is pretty steep but I reckon it will be worth it. We're away on the 4th so I can't join you or cheer you on. Good luck!
