My journey started around 8 weeks ago when I cleaned the coffee machine up. It wasn't particularly dirty, just hardly been used. Some spare parts were ordered - coffee filter and a measuring spoon, but ultimately whilst it did reasonable filter coffee, it was a bit lacking in the frothing department.

My milk frother has now changed my whole concept of coffee, in an irrevocable manner (until I get bored with the awful stuff and go back to tea)....

bravo!! which milk frother do you have?
I have a Dualit

oooh - where do you get black milk from?

my coffee machine has a kind of steam-spouting spigot that sticks out of the side that you can steam/froth your milk with.. I'm guessing that produces the same kind of effect?

To answer yourself and Brucie - the frothing spigot on the side of the coffee machine can work absolutely, but it's then reliant on you being able to get the milk to the right temperature to create microfoam etc.

What the frother does is take the trial and error out of it. :-) Fill up - press button once....

In the main meeting room we have a Starbucks machine. The novelty was great at first "Oh I think I'll have a Venti, sugar-free, non-fat, vanilla soy, double shot, decaf, no foam, extra hot, Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha with light whip and extra syrup… Please.”

Then we realised that the 4ucking thing requires cleaning. It's now set to do nothing other than to grind the beans and dispense black coffee.

Totally agree with you there. We however do have one of those automated machines that grinds the coffee, makes the coffee and adds in the milk that is heated and then frothed to your preferred froth level. The best thing is that it self cleans and the milk holder just goes in the fridge afterwards. Still prefer my cafetiere with fresh ground coffee and nothing else added (well, water of course).

I've used those Nespresso machines in hotel rooms as well. God awful things that produce a thimble of soapy coffee.

water??? you add water??? totally ruins the coffee experience! I get my cat to eat the beans and digest them and then poo them straight into my cup.

Nespresso I find ok. We have one at work. Have to supply our own pods though so it barely ever is used, but I think it's ok. All a bit of a faff though compared to a 2 minute walk to Costa.

I'm doing some development work with JDE at the moment, which I can't go into due to an NDA, but suffice to say I'm hoping that I never have to pay for coffee ever again. :)

Nah, it tastes of soap. Tried various capsules in various machines in various places. Not one produced anything approaching a decent cup of coffee. As for the shop that sells the capsules, it's even creepier than an Apple Store. I'll stick to a decent bag of coffee beans and the old fashioned method - costs a fraction of the capsules, I get a proper sized coffee, doesn't fcuk the environment over and tastes infinitely better.

them capsule things always seem to me like a license to print money - like printer ink cartridges...

I'm suspicious of any machine that doesn't let you put the coffee of your choice in it...

Oh they are that. But then saying that so are the Costa's of this world but I and many others still succumb every now and again.

I dare say my parents would absolutely shudder if they had ever known a cup of coffee being sold for over £2.....

it's one thing to go to costas every now and again - quite another to buy a coffee machine for your house that uses capsules! the latter suggests rather more than now and again!

I refuse to shell out at any of the coffee shops generally, unless I'm absolutely stuck - and their tea generally tastes minty - bastards. Similarly, in pursuit of a decent coffee with milk, I looked at some of the machines on the market and the associated "capsule" prices, and the words "right" "fcuk" and "off" came into my head.

We were never a coffee drinking family ( we had a bottle of that Camp stuff with a maharajah or something on the label at the back of the kitchenette for a fair while in case Carmen Miranda called). Two pounds plus would have bought the weeks shopping for us.

It's true is that. It costs around 8p to produce your average cup of coffee. Starbucks actually train their staff to go through all that bollocks where they make as much racket as possible when they're making you a drink - the call it "the theatre", oh I bet Gielgud would have been worried about getting any further rolls
And what the 4ucking Dickes is a Barista? :conf:

There's something wrong with that anatomical reconstruction - the coffee isn't on top.

A barista is a legal person from Walthamstow.

How many runs/wickets did you get?

There's something wrong with any espresso based drink that isn't an espresso martini.

According to Bob, baristas prefer gin. :pissed:

Didn't play in the end today - playing tomorrow in Blackpool. Runs, I hope for. Catches, let's hope so. Wickets? I am the world's worst bowler, mate, and even duck out of bowling at nets sessions - you'll find me chucking balls at the cradle instead. :)
