Euro Championships 2016

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Poland did a creditable job of earning a 0-0 draw against Germany. Boeteng in the German defence was M.O.T.M together with Baldilocks ( no offence meant, just can't get round all those cxk's and things) in the Polish back line. The Polish keeper (one name I can pronounce as well as Lewandowski) Fabianski (I think) made an utterly brilliant save from Oezil. Good game and not one-sided.

From my perspective Germany controlled the game but couldn't handle the Polish defence in the last third, while Poland actually ended up with the best chances to score.

Have to say that headfooter scuffle Poland missed was pretty unbelievable. All he had to do was throw himself at the ball and it would have gone in. Why he tried to head it is a mystery.

Perhaps he had a tenner on himself to score with a header?

That wasn't a moment from Bale, it was a moment by Hart.
Well it was. But he got it on target from a fair distance. We had two free kicks in better positions both blazed over by Kane and Rooney.
Have you ever taken a free kick? (serious question) It's actually easier to get the ball up, down and on target from that distance than it is from say 20 yards. That's why this moving the free kick 10 yards forward for ill discipline was ruled out. The first thing I'd have done if conceding a free kick from 25 yards out would be to call the ref a c*nt. Let's see you get it in from 15 yards, Mr Beckham :)

The Kane one was not that close from the goal. It was a terrible effort too.

Notice Dier had no issue from basically the edge of the box against Russia.

Bale strikes a very good ball. Hart should have saved it but if you get those on target there is always a chance the keeper is blinded by the wall or starts going the wrong way.

I don't think we really disagree here. He struck it well. Hart still should have easily saved it.

But Bale is one of the best strikers of a free kick around.

Indeed, but I put both of Bale's goals down to keeping errors rather than Bale's ability to take wonderous free kicks. But yes, if they weren't on target in the first place then neither would have gone in.

I wonder of, like Ronaldo, he IS good but defenders and keepers are panicking a bit. They shouldn't at their level but it looks like it.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Think so. Probably have too many in the wall so can't see a thing.

From that distance what function does a wall serve? He can put it over them and easily get it up and down. So the keeper still has to cover both sides.

Just a point, but have you noticed the standard of goalkeeping at this level? I have, and based on that I reckon any one of them would have been well happy with Bales straight forward shot, because that's what it was, nothing more. Why Hart stood legs apart and crouched is a baffler. Had he stood up he could have moved either way much quicker. Not suggesting a Grobbelar-esque pantomime, but Hart was rooted.

Crazy goings on in the Croatia v Czech Republic game. Lasted ninety nine and a half minutes due to idiots throwing flares. Croatia looked out of sight at 2-0 up then a peach of a ball from Thomas Rosicki was headed home. 2-1. In the 93rd mintute
a very unlucky handball gave the Czechs a peanalty and it finished 2-2. Croatia will be least pleased abut that.

Croatian fans behaviour cost them that game. Absolute idiots. One flare exploded into the face of a Croat player and one of the poor blokes trying to put them out on the pitch.

The delay got to the Croats and they threw the game away. Which I'm quite pleased about because their fans deserved it.

I wonder what UEFA will do? Suspended disqualification like Russia?

Spain making it look easy aginst Turkey. 3-0 up after an hour and playing at half pace. As ever they'll be tough opposition.
