Re: Brexit or Britin
You are indeed correct. I could've paid my £3 and voted for someone else. But I'd expect such a principled man to honour the promises in the manifesto (as far as possible in opposition). I did vote on my MP. She resigned - I'm happy with that outcome.Bruce Rioja wrote:I know, but my point remains. They could've done something at the time.Worthy4England wrote:But they weren't voting on Corbyn (or Milliband) they were voting for a manifesto of promises...We'd have to ask Bobo how much it cost.Bruce Rioja wrote:Again, I thank you for your enlightenment. However, had those 9.3m folk initially disapproved of Corbyn taking over the reigns, then as I recall it'd have cost them all of £3.00 apiece to say so.Worthy4England wrote:
@Bruce - The manifesto was the Labour party's (not Edwards - albeit he was a significant architect of it) - 9.3m voted on that basis for Labour. Post election 251,000 voted for Corbyn - no one should have been in any doubt that was a swing to the left or what Corbyn's political beliefs were (I agree with you btw that he's a pretty principled chap). Now, them's the rules - so Corbyn has a legitimate mandate from party members. He doesn't however have any sort of mandate from 9.3m people who voted for the Labour manifesto, unless he follows that manifesto as closely as he can. the 251,000 card carrying Labour members haven't asked me what I think. He wouldn't get my vote, so he's not speaking for me, unless he's close to the manifesto I voted for. On that basis, I think the PLP have a point too.

Don't think Gove has any chance. Think it is May, pretty much nailed on now.

Theresa May as PM. Jesus wept. This is ghastly!
More important than ever to get rid of that bumbling bearded cretin. She's beatable next time round. You know, if we actually try winning elections.

Do you ever wonder how undeliberate an e-mail leak might have been?
Re: Brexit or Britin
And now, at the launch of Labour's anti-semitism report, he's compared Israel to ISIS. They can't do it, can they, they can't just say "don't be anti-semitic". Unbelievable. It's beyond parody.
Was talking about it with a few friends who know members of his press team. They don't have anyone at all whose job it is is to come up with what the Daily Mail might say. Tony Blair had someone whose job it was was to check he never got photographed under a word that could be cropped to say "nice person" etc. Not only does Corbyn not have that, he needs one more than most as he actively plots against them. Turned up for his photo for the Remain campaign with a pro-Cuba t-shirt on under his shirt. He's a berk.

Labour party all round though have totally lost the professionalism they once had. It is a cynical world out there, if you don't exploit it, it will exploit you.Prufrock wrote:And now, at the launch of Labour's anti-semitism report, he's compared Israel to ISIS. Help me out - I'm not sure I get it. At the start he was allegedly "can't make his mind up" - I think he's good at hoovering up getting votes - from that perspective, I'd have rather he'd been lying on behalf of remain than lying on behalf of leave.boltonboris wrote:Standing by thisboltonboris wrote:And I'll be amazed if Boris Johnson isn't on the Remain payroll - What better than a bumbling idiot who has suddenly turned into an Islamaphobe to devalue a campaign..

Re: Brexit or Britin
Put someone in charge of your opponents campaign to win it by copying what the campaign is already lying about on immigration and the NHS?
Are you suggesting they'd have got more votes saying the same message without Johnson? Because the message was the same before he even got near them.

Re: Brexit or Britin
Boris has been out manoeuvred and out politicked ( if that's a word), which has shown his political immaturity.
Interestingly, I'm not sure Gove wants the top job. I suspect he's taken out Boris as part of some deal. He has become The King ( or Queen) Maker over night. I wouldn't be suprised if he takes Home Secretary under May and forestalls a leadership contest.

That would be real neat - then May doesn't have to keep any promises she didn't make in the first place, other than the "broad" leave the EU promise.Bijou Bob wrote:Boris has been out manoeuvred and out politicked ( if that's a word), which has shown his political immaturity.

She doesn't have to stump up £350m per week for the NHS - that'll all be blamed on someone who is no longer around...

It's looking increasingly likely that we'll stay in in my opinion.

Re: Brexit or Britin
Not sure, but to be honest she ought to have expected that answer. Spain and France don't want to give the slightest encouragement to other independence campaigns, ie Catalunya and Corsica. (I think the Belgian government would have and issue with it too.) They made that quite plain during the last indy referendum.Bruce Rioja wrote:Apparently Wee Jimmy's just been told to "Get tae feck" by France and Spain. Re: Brexit or Britin
If you think about it, either way the Tories win. Or more pertinently, the right wing of the Tory party wins. But then backing both horses will do that for you. Interesting how Europe is still in the frame for the blame, though, isn't it?
