Yes he is entitled to a personal opinion but please leave off the 'learned gentleman' tab.
I don't think you know what philosophy is. Nor how research works. Nor his role across politics. But hey, he doesn't agree with you so easier to just entirely dismiss him.
I don't agree with everything he says. Though he recently did a piece comparing the rise in opinion on the Internet and social media to that of aspects of 1930s history. Which was interesting. You may even agree with some of it. It's on the BBC.

I'm baffled that you felt the need to suggest Hobes might not have a clue what he's decided to ramble on about this time!

So, Theresa May's grand vision is akin to Ken Anderson saying "I want us to go and win the Premiership and Champions League without entertaining any further debt".
Aye. I'd like a weekend alone with Rachel Riley, but it ain't happening.

We're going to have a "phased implementation" whatever that means. Which to me sounds like code for "some things will never, ever happen".
Not sure how you can phase leaving the EU, single market and all agreements therein and re-establishing trade agreements, customs agreements, border and security deals etc etc.....not sure at all!

You made your bed.........
I see there are mutterings around about diverting large parts of the foreign aid to the NHS, not before time, there would be no hole in NHS funding by 2020 if that is the case

The "world" isn't changing. Its just catching up and running ahead of us. As we cut ourselves off at the knees and pretending we can be significant in any way.Hoboh wrote:Stay away from the edge of any cliffs until you regain your senses mateBWFC_Insane wrote:

Anyhow, we've had 7 years of right wing politics in this country. So anything that is going wrong or goes wrong in the future, is squarely down to the right and its politics.
We can start with the value of the pound and the state of the NHS.
I'm going to quite enjoy being able to blame you for it all.

Quite - blaming the lefties is a bit short-sighted. I'm fairly sure around 70-75% of my lifetime (and therefore Hoboh's too) has been under right wing "non-fluffy" governments...BWFC_Insane wrote:The "world" isn't changing. Anyhow, at least we've no managed to lay to rest one of the last key myths "We can retain membership of the single market and still exit" - let's file it next to "£350m a week extra to the NHS"

Depends if you truly believe the EU will keep casually strolling along its current path, I certainly don't.BWFC_Insane wrote:The "world" isn't changing. Its just catching up and running ahead of us. In a world oversubscribed with stupid C*nts, I'd kind of resigned myself to stupid c*ntishness triumphing, so in that sense, I can't really be disappointed.
But a bit like when United won the league basically for a full decade, their triumph doesn't stop them being c*nts. And stupid ones in this case.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Yeah, brilliant. What's he going to do? The rest of the world are getting on with developing their increasingly globalised economies. We are sitting there talking about how we want free trade with mo strings.Hoboh wrote:Trump!BWFC_Insane wrote:What about India and China?Hoboh wrote:

Rest of the world don't give a feck. India wouldn't give the EU, the whole EU a trade deal without some guarantee on work visas. But they will of course cosy up to us, for what reason exactly?
The world doesn't give a feck about us. We have nothing the world needs beyond arguably a 'friendship' with the USA. Even that may be tested now.
The idea that we can leave and have everything as we want it is about as fanciful as Bolton winning the premiership in two years time.
Re: Brexit or Britin
What is Trump going to do? well for starters he can upset the Chinese economic growth, big time and have most of the US population backing him if he stops being a bit of a tool.BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah, brilliant. India? I think you will find that the Indian economy revolves around a smaller few than our much hated elite, who btw have suitable bolt holes out of the country if things go belly up, with the neighbours they have nothing is guaranteed long term.
I'd love to know just where you sit at times, one minute you are socialist devotee, next your supporting globalisation as if it is the be all and end all.
I back free and fair trade, not trade with people who pay peanuts, live in supreme luxury whilst people literally starve to death at the same time as undercutting the importing countries labour costs and swamping markets with their goods at will and totally unhindered.
It is far easier for the Chinese in most markets than it is for us and others to reciprocate and that's before you get to copying and stealing the designs of others, Chinese motorcycles for example, are, more or less ringers for goods produced in Japan, Italy etc.
I may stand to be corrected, but when the Japanese car industry was setting up plants over here part of the deal to enjoy certain benefits was a % of each car was to be sourced in the UK and not imported just to create assembly lines. This spreads money around the economy and is surely a reputable way to do business.
What I am dead against is the tossers who shift all production overseas to these 'cheap' countries with the claim it makes goods cheaper, carry on down that route and no bugger will be able, or at least only a few, will be able to purchase their goods in a shrinking market. We are not there yet but it is coming.

Re: Brexit or Britin
^^ Delighted Hobes has finally backed foreign aid whilst living in his comparative luxury, here in the UK. Although I'm rather hoping, given that he's so keen to remove job prospects from them, by returning production to the UK that he'll be increasing the foreign aid budget for the increased number that will "literally starve to death" when their jobs come back to the UK. I am a little unclear as to the impact he thinks this may have on prices?

Just to be clear here, would hoboh back our government if they protected out steel industry against cheap Chinese imports by imposing trade tariffs?
