So, it turns out Southend by night is mostly closed and feckin' freezing.

Some comment in the news about Southend's inability to get the pitch playable. Apparently Canvey Island's game with Bognor took place only eleven miles away...

I asked the same question yesterday, Dibbs. Did you get an answer?officer_dibble wrote:

My guess is that it was a cup game against Cardiff at our place around 2000 ish.

Did we not have one called off against Arsenal just a few years ago?Bruce Rioja wrote:I asked the same question yesterday, Dibbs. Did you get an answer?officer_dibble wrote:

I seem to remember that it was because of the ice in the areas surrounding the stadium (theirs, not ours).

There was that one but I think that the most recent match involving ourselves to be postponed is this one at the Arsenal in 2010.TANGODANCER wrote:http://www.mfc.co.uk/news/article/ref-w ... 88885.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Hoboh wrote:I thought it was at Wigan due to snow and iceNicko58 wrote:Did we not have one called off against Arsenal just a few years ago?Bruce Rioja wrote:I asked the same question yesterday, Dibbs. F.A. cup game at Spurs was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch an hour before the game.

Wow. As much as I feel sorry for those that made a wasted journey, this has to go down as an unbelievable over-reaction by Southend.

The "official comment" supplied by the club speaks volumes. Totally unprofessional.Bruce Rioja wrote:Wow. As much as I feel sorry for those that made a wasted journey, this has to go down as an unbelievable over-reaction by Southend.

Seen comments by their fans suggesting the chairman is a bit of a dictatorial tit.BWFC_Insane wrote:The "official comment" supplied by the club speaks volumes. I'd like to think that there is a bit more to this to be honest, Fella. I'd be happier in a strange kinda way to learn that the guy was on a final written, because if he has been sacked for one cock-up after 27 years service then it'll be absolutely appalling.throwawayboltonian wrote:Well I mean we don't know the details so we can't conclusively say. If they've deemed it serious enough to sack the bloke - and risk tribunal - they must have good grounds to justify this decision. This might be the latest in a string of problems. Perhaps the fault does lie with him - it sounds like he did not provide the necessary protection and care to the pitch prior to the game reading the BEN and BBC; if any of us were to ignore or neglect a crucial part of our jobs, would we honestly expect to keep ours?Bruce Rioja wrote:Wow. Either way there's an obvious and understandable lack of detail. Maybe the club did over react, however they are likely to have some justification to sack someone after 27 years for an issue such as this. If not then I am sure the groundsperson will chase this legally.
