Wee Jimmy's banging on about a 2nd referendum for Scottish independence. Can one of you explain this to me please because as I see it Scotland voted to remain part of the UK. The UK voted to leave Europe. That's the end of the matter.
I guess the argument is the situation has significantly changed since the Scottish vote.

And "the end of the matter" doesn't really apply. Situations change.

In general I really don't think the politics of isolation will win. However, the Scottish issue is more whether they want to be isolated with us or from us.

Folk get oddly touchy about the propriety of the RIP thread, so here is better I suppose.

Martin McGuiness eh? There's some secrets gone there. Wonder if there's some stuff stored away in America for after he'd gone.

I'd like to say that the fact I am in Cyprus has bugger all to do with the Greeks and Turks waving their cocks at each other.
On another note the hotel is so good the hardest thing so far has been getting out of bed in the morning fuelled by highly efficient waiters and copious amounts of brandy :D

Scotland will NOT be granted entry into the EU, should they gain independance

Eh? Unless I've missed something, they would have to apply for entry, and be assessed like anyone else.

Surely they'd not be blocked from doing that?

They wouldn't be blocked from the process, but Spain wont let them in and it needs all 27/28 countries to agree.

Nothing stopping them from applying - But firstly, I don't think they'd meet the criteria and secondly, they would definitely not get sufficient votes from the other members

News!
French President Francois Hollande has told Theresa May that talks on future trade relations with the EU must come after the negotiation of a divorce deal.
Mr Hollande's stance echoed that of German Chancellor Angela Merkel as Europe presented a united front against the Prime Minister's plea for trade and divorce talks to take place simultaneously.

Undoubtedly the negotiations are going to be difficult for us but they have a dilemma too. They can't appear to be generous as it could encourage others to talk of opting out. If they're too harsh it could backfire on their own economies or standing. It's going to be a bumpy ride!

Actually, I find the attitude of some of the so called moderate press to be a little dishonest Harry.
Juncker and every Tom, Dick and... well you know  have been issuing threats and no goes for months now, May mentions security arrangements might possibly have to be looked at and they are all up in arms screaming blackmail etc.
The wise thing would be to keep quiet until things really are forming and shut up the parasites and has been's until then, they are creating the problem giving remainers false hopes and infuriating those that voted leave, cementing our position and view of the EU being like a mafia family!
I except there has to be give and take but having just come back through Larnaca airport and seen the EU 'duty free' prices, perks are not really in abundance
The hotel shop sold fags etc. cheaper.

There's clearly a qualitative difference reserving things like "trade" for negotiations, and security co-operation.

Imagine if it turned out German security forces had information about the attack on Parliament the other week but Merkel stopped them saying anything as a negotiating chip. Your head would've exploded.

Is this one of the perks we'll see when we leave, cheaper booze and fags?

Ha, Ha, Ha. So you think the Germans and the rest of the 'family' are upset because they give us mass sensitive information? Think again, most of it goes one way, took a whistle blower before the Germans found out Frau Merkel's mobile was bugged, they are that good.

No, just saying the so called 'cheap duty' hardly exists now, something some remoaners went out of their way to point out a perk we would lose.

Can you show me a link to anywhere anyone actually said that? I'd be interested to read who said it and why.

Not quite got the hang of the word "imagine" have we.

So you're down with Germans dying when we could've stopped it but didn't because we want better tariffs on washing machines?

That's not important right now. Hoboh never said "you said it", or even anyone on here "said it". All that's important is someone somewhere may or may not have said it and they were clearly in the Remain camp.

Get with the times - make shit up.

That's not even fair to suggest. You could just as easily spin it around and say that the EU could prevent it by coming to a sensible agreement over trade tariffs, or dropping their claims for this absurd divorce settlement. A lack of an agreement depends on BOTH sides not agreeing. It's not a one-sided discussion.

Yes security cooperation is incredibly important. But there is inherent value in us providing that cooperation. It's not unfair for us to state that value. Let's not tie our hands behind our backs for these negotiations. We'd stand even less chance of meeting those Brexit 'promises' that Worthy is constantly reminding everyone on.
