Who should be offered a contract for next season?
On June 30, no fewer than 16 BWFC first-team players become frer agents. Which ones would you offer terms for next season? You may tick as many boxes as you wish; for the sake of argument let's imagine we do get promoted, and that a suitable salary can be agreed upon.
For the record:
• youngsters Alex Honeyball, Callum Spooner, Alex Perry and George Newell are also out of contract
• Chris Long is contracted to Burnley until 2018, Viv Solomon-Otabor to Birmingham until 2019
• Howard, Alnwick, Beevers, Derik, Pratley, Chris Taylor, Proctor, Wilkinson are contracted to June 2018; Amos and Vela to June 2019
The poll is open for 90 days, taking us up to July 4, by which time many decisions will have been made.

For me...assuming the offers are sensible and on a 'take or leave' basis in some cases...
Le Fondre
Madine
Morais
Wheater
Spearing
Andy Taylor
Dervite (very low offer and to be considered cover)

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
So you'd be cutting Wilson, Buxton, Moxey, Trotter, Mark Davies, Walker and Clayton, plus loanees Thorpe and Henry. Fair enough, although I'll be intrigued to see whether Parky fancies keeping the adaptable Thorpe, whose positional dexterity might allow us to switch from 352 to 4231 without substitutes. PP might also have other ideas to replace Dervite with a swifter centre-back to cover for Wheevers, whose lack of pace might be a bigger problem in the higher division.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 11:01 amFor me...assuming the offers are sensible and on a 'take or leave' basis in some cases...

I'm there except no Madine (not good enough a league up), I'd see what else was there before signing Dervite, I'd possibly sign Thorpe and I'd offer Mavies a pay-as-you-play.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 11:01 amFor me...assuming the offers are sensible and on a 'take or leave' basis in some cases...

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
I went with:
Wheater
Taylor
Spearing
Clayton
Morais
Le Fondre
I'm not convinced about Doreen in a back 4 and I'd prefer for us to get a speedier and more agile CB to provide cover/competition. Clayton I'd give a year to see if he can stay injury free for longer than 5 minutes and if he can produce more than the flashes we've seen. Whilst Madine has done reasonably well this season I don't see him as being able to maintain it at a higher level. I'd be open to Mavies on a purely pay as you play basis, but I haven't voted for him as I'm not that bothered.
Be nice to offload Amos and Chris Taylor if he's due to come back. Same goes for Wilkinson.

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
I'm very unsure on Clayton. Is he really that good? Also his injury history is not good. I think personally we need to make head over heart decisions. He's barely been fit to play for us. We've seen in the past that those players often continue that trend. Even if the injuries are seemingly just bad luck and unrelated.
I definitely don't want to see more wages wasted on Davies. Again seems harsh, but I'd be surprised if he gets back to anything close to championship level fitness and performances.
Madine for me would be a low offer, but I think he's a target man who can do what Parky wants. As cover only of course in the championship. But we know he can graft when required. And Parky seems to draw the best out of him.
I know he's been a bit in and out and was poor Saturday but I'd also be open to exploring another loan for Long. I think his pace could be a real asset with a better creative player in midfield (which we would absolutely need in the champ).

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
I'd say everyone has got a chance of getting a new contract. We will have plenty of time in a transfer window to determine where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
Take a look at the upturn in Wheater, hopefully we can have a few more making the upturn and with the medical team working wonders hopefully we can do the same next season with a few more.
That's not to say everyone should warrant a renewal, but rather they should all consider themselves in contention providing they can deliver the goods when needed.

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
Yay to:
Wilson (might not be first-choice but is a good organiser on and off the field)
Wheater (just immense, although I'd worry about mobility in D2)
Thorpe (adaptable, dependable, 24)
A Taylor (impressive at LB and LWB)
Spearing (certainly capable of the step up)
Davies (on pay-per-play; cheap – won’t get many other offers)
Madine (not as first choice but as an option)
Morais (of course)
ALF (13 goals in 31 games for us)
Nay to:
Buxton (a worthwhile punt but too old and knackered)
Dervite (I expect there’s better, cheaper, faster and hungrier)
Moxey (I don’t hate him but a change is needed; he’s also 31)
Trotter (Sorry, big man, but no)
Walker (Has played 45 minutes in 2017. For Bury)
Henry (Hasn’t shown enough. Would prefer Sammy - or Feeney...?)
Clayton (Would love him to come good, but he hasn’t shown enough yet for D3 let alone D2. Could loan him out?)
Also worth pointing out that some of these will depend on finances: lifting the embargo and its attendant limit on squad numbers, but then also cutting our cloth beyond that. No doubt at all that we will be better off in the higher division but it's also worth noting that with promotion and cost-cutting we will probably go from one of the division's highest wages to one of the lowest. I expect to see a lot more defensive performances next season, and they may be needed; just hope we have a cutting edge to take the chances we get.

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
I agree, I wouldn't want to see wages wasted on him either. I think he may struggle to get any offers at all so it wouldn't surprise me to see a Holden-type situation in which he stays and trains with us, perhaps plays for the Dev side and - if and when he proves his fitness - gets a low-risk pay-per-play contract. Parky seemed to like him a lot and he may be a relatively cheap way to get some creativity in midfield next term.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 12:11 pmI definitely don't want to see more wages wasted on Davies. Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
First contract i would go for would be Sammi Ameobi. Whatever division.
Rest depends where we are. Nowt wrog wih Madine at L1 but champo would hope we could get a big man that looks more lime scoring.
What I really want is a Per Frandsen style centre mid. Geta his foot in but provides some creativity and guile. I like Pratley, Vela and Spearing but they dont create enough.

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
Surprised there hasn't been more votes for Buxton. Started the season in the four wins in a row and generally had some good performances.
Suppose like Davies the decision to offer a new contract will surely come down to that injury record.

Re: Who should be offered a contract for next season?
I haven't voted (Millennials!) so it isn't me. The payp would be dependent on the embargo going so there is no limit on squad places.
Clayton I'd give a run to once we're up. Still looks way of the pace and hard to judge if that's fitness or ability.
SammyAmmy a defo too.

Possibly Wilson if we're making low offers for squad places.
Madine ok integral to how we play. I'd be trying to find a similar but better player but keeping him just in case.
Buxton is sadly knackered.
Mavies on a no-lose pay/play deal possibly.
Clayton i cant see thriving under Parky.
Just don't like Thorpe, but can see why we might keep him.
Can't believe Walker got votes. Appalling player.
Would love to see Sammy back. Just because he's not find it Championship level yet doesn't mean he won't. And I'm confident he will.

When you have a manager like Parky, you get the best out of players that others cannot....
