BetFred announced as shirt sponsor. Or "official shirts sponsor", to distinguish them from all those unofficial shirt sponsors.

Well, I'm delighted that we finally have an Official Financial Trading Partner. It's about bloody time.

Will his lot get exclusivity under the stands then, now? It's currently Ladbroke's isn't it? I should know but I only use them to throw the odd quid away on Moxey to score a hat trick

Did we ever get to the bottom of what it was exactly that we were being asked to spin, and what one might hope to win as a result? :conf:

Seriously. You couldn't give less of a shit about additional non-earned revenue coming into the club? You couldn't give less of a shit about high profile brand exposure or the level of brand alignment?

The Roulette Wheel Of Life, one assumes.

Fred is certainly a step up from that, or our previous sponsors (about whom I'd completely forgotten despite the fact I played in that shirt last night).

In fact, there's a quiz. I think we've had 12 shirt sponsors, including one whose shirts never appeared on the pitch. How many can you name?

I suspect what he means is that we have no idea if this is a good deal or not. Big names don't always pay more (are Betfred a big name - I genuinely do not know?).

Given Ken seems savvy I suspect it is a good deal, but all a bit meaningless based on how it has been presented.

ROK mobile's owners are hardly paupers - One of their 2 owners is allegedly worth a couple of billion...not sure they put any more in, other that the direct sponsorship deal into the Club. I hope it's a good deal for us - just not sure it's any more than that - short term sponsorship deal? Not sure I understand why it would be more or less exciting that ROK extending or any other sponsorship deal?

I see the usual cretins on Twitter are moaning that we are sponsored by a betting company, it seems to have escaped their knowledge that we are playing in the Skybet Championship this year

See, I'm mixed on this. There's definitely some sort of kudos being sponsored by a company people have heard of, as opposed to a "who are they?" sponsor which makes it seem like you've been desperately trawling the High Street for a ten-bob deal. ROK Mobile do indeed have shiny shoes, but nobody knows who the chuff they are.

There are limits to this: it might also be embarrassing to be sponsored by, say, Durex. And I must admit, while I wouldn't take to Twitter to bewail it, ideally I'd rather we weren't sponsored by a betting company. (We don't get to choose the league sponsor, unless we withdraw from the competition on point of principle, which might be a touch self-defeating.) But it's not the first time we've taken a bookie's dollar.

I was even more uncomfortable with poverty vultures QuickQuid (although I still didn't tweet), and there is a clear line between those firms and betting companies, even if they're pedlars of addiction. Would people object to being sponsored by, say, Boddington's?

Reality is that I might change what I buy in a shop (or the shop itself) based on what they do. How the hell do you do that with your football club? There are probably only a couple of things they could pick, which would stop me going.

No, I'm only counting front-of-shirt sponsors. Still, I reckon you've got eight correct there, which is a good bat. Hint: "That blue rectangle" isn't a sponsor's name :D

Yep, two more from Worthy – technically "FibrLec" without the first e and "ROK Mobile" but that would be quibbling.

Two more to get. Clue: Bruce got them both wrong (but much else right, valued member of the team etc etc)

Brucie managed to get most of them in the right order too! Quite a feat.
