Player agent: "I am going to be cheeky and ask for x". Kieth Wyness/Tony Xia: "That is ridiculous. Have 2x"
That's literally the story (or urban myth) around Seth Johnson signing for Leeds: first (large) wage offer elicited such a startled reaction from the agent that LUFC immediately added £20kpw. True or not, it goes around, and obviously comes around again.
To be fair, that same scenario's been doing the rounds since City signed Steve Daly from Wolves, although then it was in relation to the amount that City paid for him. I'd be amazed if it's ever anything other than utter bollocks.

If it is, it's bollocks peddled by Seth's agent, per Genshaw's tweet...

No, no. I mean this automatic raising of the stakes by dint of someone balking / raising their eyebrows etc. I'm not referring to a scenario whereby a better deal was already on the table to the one being sought initially.

Claret-ty, perhaps...

Which reminds me of the time when, while gesticulating excitedly, the missus accidentally knocked most of a bottle of red wine over me. Which would have been bad enough even if I hadn't been wearing suitable clothes for the hot climes: white cotton shirt and white cotton trousers. I looked like an extra from Reservoir Dogs.

Hell yeah

Wouldn't work with your head though, you'd favour a matchstick

Early prices for 2019/20 going up.

We're 100/1, along with Bury, to win the title. 20/1 to be promoted. Sunderland favs at 9/2, followed by Ipswich (13/2), Pompey (8/1) and Rotherham (10/1).

We're 20/1 to get promotion, 2/1 2nd favs to be relegated (Bury odds-on, Accrington, Gills and Wimbledon behind us).

Very much meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Best sticking with us winning the FA Cup at 1500/1 oi reckon. 8)
