Carabao Yorks Nightmare. Leeds (A) 14/08/18

Post by Bruce Rioja » Sat Aug 11, 2018 7:50 pm

Just picked up my ticket (£10), got home to see Leeds gub Derby at Pride Park (4-1) and would now like my money back :)

So, what team for Tuesday then? Pretty much everyone who hasn't had a game so far? Would like to see Widschutt (sp?) have a full 90 mins too.

Don't mind what the team is, just happy the match thread has found it's way into the Match Threads board.

Even got the date right!

Ee bah gum.

It's just like the good old days, or somesuch.

I'm going to go for the 2-0 Bolton, we're smashing this league this season.

It warms the cockles.

Think we'll see changes but still field a decent team.

Litts in for Olk. Might even put Litts RW in a 4-5-1 to rest Noone, sticking Darby at RB??
Hobbs in for Wheats.
Alf in for Magic-ennis
O'Neil possibly getting a start. Pritchard and Wilson to see a sniff of the ball at some point.

And insipid first half sees us 2-0 down at the break, but we introduce Wildschut, Ozzy and Donaldson, go 4-4-f*cking-2 and win out 3-4. 8)

According to a Leeds fan at work, Marcelo Bielsa had all the players on litter-picking jankers for four hours after the Derby game. How Rioch-onian is that? :)

Just seen this. Posted my ramblings elsewhere. First game of the season for me and my first league cup game since....errrm???

Looking forward to seeing Oztumer I think. Will he play with Le Fondre? Be like a couple of kids against their back 4!!

Both sides will, you'd think, rotate heavily - which makes this one hard to call. I'm just looking forward to seeing all the new guys; especially true of the lads I've not seen play much/at all like Remi. Will be a great chance for some of them to stake a claim to a starting spot, as they'll have to play well to get close to Leeds.

I don't want to rear the ugly head of Match thread-gate however

I have moved it to the Trotters forum as all new match threads will be, they will then be moved to the Match thread archive when there is no activity on them for over a week.

I hope this is a happy medium for everybody.

No Hall or Pritchard in the U23's suggests they may be in the squad tonight. (Alternatively Hall might be packing his bags for a loan).

I wouldn't risk anyone tonight. Definitely give Lowe the night off - he's so key and we have no cover.

Matthews
Little Hobbs Wilson Grounds
O'Neil Murphy
Noone Oztumer Wildschut
Donaldson

Something like that. You could even play a narrow 4, rest Noone and bring ALF/Hall in up front alongside Donaldson.

I was just thinking of who needed a run out. Unfortunately fitness is an issue.

Remi,
Little, Hobbs, Wilson, Grounds
O''Neill Murphy
Ozzy Wildschut
Donaldson/ALF

The five bolded names have been confirmed.

The BN (Illes or the idiot sub) is making a big deal out of Ozzy being a "key man" - don't know about that.
Hopefully he's a little jack terrier doing enough defensive running to earn Parky minutes but we'll see.

This will be the chance to see the second half of the squad we didn't get on Saturday.
If my staters all play I will be watching...
the workrate and effectiveness of Oz,
the mobility of Wilson and Hobbs,
Grounds for any and all signs he's better than Taylor and hopefully Robinson.
Wildschut for how many minutes he can last.
ALF for if he has a role in this team.
Murphy for signs he's getting fitter
What could've happened; did.

Fair enough.

Depends just how much Phil wants to rotate/experiment. Your line-up looks pretty likely, though we might well rest Murphy and bring Pritchard in - if we don't I'd expect Murphy to play about 60 minutes.

I mean the interesting question is, once they are all fit (which tonight they clearly won't be) would that line up be much weaker than Saturday's? On paper I'd argue not!

It might actually be a better-balanced team than Saturday's. It certainly looks like it can play more football.

What I would say is that, given how we play, removing Lowe and Vela may well cripple us in the middle of the park. O'Neil is an honest lad and Ozzy does running, but Lowe and Vela are bloody camels - you just let them go and they keep going until nightfall.

Hobbs and Wilson had it in them to be Premier League defenders. No idea where either of them is mentally or physically these days, though. They have both been consistently better players than either Wheater or Beevers over their careers. Little and Grounds are good players at this level, as are Noone and Wildschut. Donaldson has shown he can play.

There's nowt wrong with that side except fitness and age - which are both killers.
