Re: Today I'm happy about......
I'm happy we did the weekly pilgrimage to Asda today....so we don't have to do it tomorrow. I tend to get a little stressed, you see at moronic behaviour, queues of folk stocking up for World War III; chat clubs in the aisles, folk who read every single label on shelves and having trolleys knocking lumps out of my heels. I try very hard to adopt a Christian attitude to it all, honest.

On the whole, I quite enjoy the social interaction of supermarket shopping. However, there are two types of shopper who do piss me off the most. One is the person who genuinely seems flumoxed by the request for payment once they've gone through the checkout, the other is the person who thinks it OK to eat stuff that they haven't yet paid for as they conduct their shop. What do they think it is? A fecking finger buffet?TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 6:41 pmI'm happy we did the weekly pilgrimage to Asda today....so we don't have to do it tomorrow. I have been in Portugal since Sunday with work. I finally had a wonderful fish meal that I expected for this great country. It was a sea bream in Tavira, which is a lovely town 20 minutes from Faro.

Ooooh, Malc. If you're still out there and you get a chance I implore you to try black scabbardfish. They're a deep water fish found mainly off the coasts of Portugal and Madeira. Thankfully it's usually served filleted as they truly are the ugliest creature in the whole of the seas. Absolutely delicious though.
I work in Porto from time to time and it was the hotel staff who recommended I try this at a traditional Portuguese restaurant. I'm glad they did.

Thanks for the recommendation as I probably wouldn’t choose it because it isn’t the best sounding fish. I will look out for it tonight though (not flying back until the morning). I’m pretty sure I didn’t see it on the menu last night either.
The best place I have been for quality restaurants is Alvor if you have been. Especially the one at the bottom of the hill that looks a bit rough but is fantastic.

Some menus will mention Espada Preta, same thing.malcd1 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 6:17 pmBruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:05 pmOoooh, Malc. So is Aphanopus carbo the same thing but don' ask for that. Actually it should be in every decent restaurant (but not cheap).Enoch wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 8:01 pmSome menus will mention Espada Preta, same thing.malcd1 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 6:17 pmBruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:05 pmOoooh, Malc. Just went to the post office to post a Father's Day card and asked for a 1st class stamp. She gave me a Dad's Army stamp with You Stupid Boy emblazoned across it... Perfect!

To anybody out there, lost and confused. Don't give up. I can positively state that six pints of bitter and 11 Brazil nuts can quite comfortably see you through 72 hours of hell...

Re: Today I'm happy about......
Yesterday actually, but happy anyway.
A somewhat scruffy middle aged bloke knocked on my door carrying a a plastic bucket and a set of ladders big enough to phase The Rock. Usual tale "I'm doing some work in you area for ..Mr...do you know him? Anyway, I notice your gutters haven't been cleared lately and I'll do them for you....half price...I normally have a van but it's in for repair...blah blah." I laughed, but the gutters actually did need cleaning, so I accepted his "half-price. Got the gutters on three sides of the house done. front-side and rear for £20, a couple of bob extra and a bottle of water I gave him. I saw the amount of stuff he cleared and he put all the rubbish in a plastic bag I gave him. A bargain, not half... He went away happy.

I went for an interview today. Had the worst preparation ever because for the past 3 nights I've been perusing here, the beeb and social media for news on us rather than swotting up. I only went and got it! I got a tax refund yesterday too. This has been a hell of a week
