Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
The squad needed culling for sure but now the Olkowskis and Ameobis are abandoning ship there goes any promotion hope.
If those two had honoured their contracts we'd be in pretty good shape...
I think the best time to buy the club was back in late August or a month into the season been. Points on the board and the season/championship status/player-management relations were all salvageable but I bet shiny slimy Ken was holding out for too much.
At the moment we're worth a tenth of that.
Relegated with next to no chance of bouncing back with only four or five sulky players likely showing up.'
Not to mention the doom and gloom on the business side... If I won lotto I wouldn't touch it with a shitty stick
What could've happened; did.

They'll still be owed their wages, barring liquidation, I think.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 11:08 amI think the clear out will be a bonus for new owners once the financial issues have been dealt with. No lingering Ben Amoses etc.mullayo wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 9:58 amThis hasn't been so much a players coming in speculation thread as players going out rumours.
Really sad. Has anyone ever had a clearout like this?
When all's said and done we may not have enough for a five-a-side... Against another team...
I doubt we'll see any action whatsover until we get an owner. A REAL one.
We're basically free to a good home at this stage. League 1 with 4 or 5 disgruntled players, we're worth nowt.
Don't blame the players. Didn't get paid they can feel free to quit.
Lots to do before anything starts being seen as a bonus if course.

I'm sure, but a new owner can control the wage bill from the beginning.

Putting it in here as he probably doesn't deserve a Where Are They Now but Millwall, resigned to losing main striker Lee Gregory, might well replace him with Tom Eaves. Aye, that one. 22 goals for third-tier Gillingham last season, 22 more this season, so he might be in a division above us.
<sigh>
(Lest this be ascribed to our incompetence alone, he was also released on a free transfer by Yeovil, who have now departed the league altogether.)

Incredibly, we played against them in the Championship as recently as 2014.

Aye - I watched them get promoted at Wembley the season before, beating Brentford. Not to brag, but to underline proximity, I was in a very nice seat approximately 10 yards behind the Brentford dugout, so I had a superb view of the Brentford left-back, attempting to hit a long ball up the line, instead managing to hoof the ball directly into the face of his manager, Uwe Rosler being stood on the edge of his technical area. I'm still impressed by the way Rosler didn't flinch, but glared at his player.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 2:30 pmIncredibly, we played against them in the Championship as recently as 2014.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 1:35 pm(Lest this be ascribed to our incompetence alone, he was also released on a free transfer by Yeovil, who have now departed the league altogether.)
Anyway, Yeovil. Since that promotion to a sole season above the third tier, in six seasons they've won 51 league games and lost 135, finishing 24th, 24th, 19th, 20th, 19th and 24th.

Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
Actual Potential Signing alert. Bristol City have released goalkeeper Frank Fielding. Now 31, the Blackburn-born goalkeeper was "heavily" "linked" "with" "us" last summer – he's said to want to return to God's county. (He's been in Brizzle for six seasons, and was their undisputed No.1 in the 2014/15 League One title campaign and last season's Champo effort, but only played 5 league games this term.)
Obviously there are hoops and hurdles ahead, but the former England U21 goalkeeper is the sort I'd expect us to be linked with, *if* Alnwick's on his way (as can be projected from his absence from the 18 at Forest) - and of course if we have some wages money, a club, etc.

No tears from me. Ameobi might as well go to China or MLS because he'll never perform consistently in English football.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 10:16 amPawel and Sammy to leave on Monday.

Olkowski I've seen little of because I missed all but the last 3 games living abroad. Did wonder when he was getting rave reviews early on why he was with us and clearly had no decent offers. My guess was a lack of mental toughness or a bad attitude. Hard to tell given the circumstances if that was true but can hardly blame him for jumping ship. Good luck to him.

Good question. I have no idea. If we had offered him a new contract and he had turned us down then we would be due a fee. If he has concelled his contract or we haven't offered him a new deal and let his contract end, I'm not sure how we stand. I doubt there will be a precedence so it might be up to the FA to decide. Whatever the fee it won't be enough.

I believe there is a "training fee", which will amount to nearly feck all...malcd1 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 1:35 pmofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 12:09 pmDoes connell go for nowt?malcd1 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 11:21 amDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 10:16 amPawel and Sammy to leave on Monday.

I further believe it depends on the grade of your academy - the higher the grade (ie the more money you spend on it), the more compensation you get. No, I can't imagine that shafting small clubs at all.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 4:22 pmI believe there is a "training fee", which will amount to nearly feck all...malcd1 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 1:35 pmofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 12:09 pmDoes connell go for nowt?malcd1 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 11:21 amDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 10:16 amPawel and Sammy to leave on Monday.

^ The oft quoted Simon Jordan uses it as a reason for his disillusionment with the game and him getting out of Crystal Palace. They got shafted by Spurs and the then new rules over John Bostock. Yes, THAT John Bostock

Not seen much of him but we've lost many young players over the last decade and they've done bugger all. I'd love to see him develop with us but not sure it is as big a loss as some make out.
