Good start. Nice to have Roy back at the top of the order.

Hell of a start in fact, and a century for Bairstow.

337-7 due to some excellent bowling. Time will tell, but 8-1 is a positive start.

So far so good. Leaving themselves a lot to do. Will be happy when Kohli goes.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
My collies are wobbling a bit. We could do with a break (wicket)

Massive. Woakes currently 2-8 after 5.1 which...isn't bad!

Commentators are moaning about Roy not fielding, ah well, they have to moan about something I suppose. All over now, a win by 31. We'll take it.

Too late, was the cry. I'm still getting called up to play in The Palace Shield; I'm 53 next month.
Daisy Hill have this week announced their resignation from The Bolton League because they can no longer get a second XI out. Allow me offer some context here. When I was a kid my uncle played for Daisy Hill, their Pro was a young Pakistani lad by the name of Javed Miandad. Yes, THAT Javed Miandad. I sat there as a 10 year old watching Sylvester Clarke bowling to him at 90 mph, and now they're going to have to play village cricket.
The rot set in long since and the cricket authorities have done feck all about it.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Good win. Still bemuses me how we lost to Sri Lanka...
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
The square where I played my club cricket has been in the middle of an overgrown field for the last twenty years or so. In it's day it was graced by the likes of Alan Brown and Kevin Jarvis, both Kent stalwarts and hosted a testimonial match against a full Kent XI every season.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:50 pmToo late, was the cry. A product of my time but I would always prefer watching Boycott and Tavaré battling to get through the day against the likes of Holding, Roberts and Marshall, than a bunch of blokes in pyjamas slogging it to all points of the compass.
Now, where did I leave that Pimm's?

Apropos of not much (except in a cricketing sense), as a kid I used to take my autograph book everywhere (well, you never knew who you might meet and oh, if only I still had it) . One day I went up to Lower Pools, (home of Heaton Cricket Club back then.) Pride of place in the book went to two stars of the visiting XI, some West Indian bowler chaps called Ramadhin and Valentine. They turned out to be so good they even wrote a calypso about them. Happy days.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I know all to well about the drop in participation. Club cricket seems to be full of older guys who will seemingly never stop, and kids coming through. I seem to be part of a lost generation. Played solidly from about 5, county juniors, broke into premier league first team cricket at 15, and then sort of stopped at 23, and completely stopped at 25. Hardly any of the guys I grew up with still play. Combination of work and family commitments for me. Not sure about everyone else’s reasons, but it’s amazing how many top young players I grew up with now no longer play. Not sure if the club cricket model of being out for 12 hours on a Saturday really endears itself to modern life.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:50 pmToo late, was the cry. For me, Enoch, I'm ever so glad that the alteration of the petticoat revolution did not occur.
Also for me, the altar of cricket is The Ashes.
