Cross contamination isn't caused by using the wrong coloured chopping board; it's caused by a small lack of knowledge coupled with a complete lack of common sense.
I have two chopping boards, both wooden, both abhorrent to any Environmental Health Officer, both perfectly serviceable.
To date I have no reported cases of food poisoning.

I put ours in backwards though, green through to red.

Re: General Chit Chat
We have a glass board about two feet by eighteen inches for most cutting (wife is banned from slicing bread for the same reason she doesn't paint straight lines) She uses Dettol antiseptic surface cleaner and hot water after every meal on it. . We have only two other chop boards, one for any onions etc, and the other is reserved for the dog's food (doesn't go anywhere near ours) . That's all we've ever needed and we've never had any problems.

My post is based on my Honours qualification in basic food hygiene. However, at home, one wooden chopping board suits all, and I'm still aliveLost Leopard Spot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2019 5:10 pmOurs are all wood. Hence the classification according to size, emblazonment, etc.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:53 pmIdeally they should be coloured differently - red for raw meat, blue for fish, white for bread and so on....Lost Leopard Spot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:50 pmJust been round to a neighbour's BBQ for a quick intro to some friends of theirs. Whilst there I thought I'd make myself useful and help the host to prepare his scran.
"Which of your boards is the raw meat board?" I innocently asked, followed by a look of total confusion.
I had to explain that in our household it is The Law that the smallest board is for chopping/slicing cooked meats/fish, the one with the rope is for raw meat, the one with fish engraved/burnt on it is for raw fish/seafood, the medium sized one is for vegetables/fruit slicing, the large one for bread, and the olive wood one is for cheese.
He said, just choose one of his three, they all get washed.
I asked how many deaths through food poisoning his household had suffered recently, and was proffered the answer of none, not even a stomach ache.
Tonight I am about to confront the wife regarding The Law of The Chopping Boards.
Wish me luck.
So, you're agreeing with my wife, and disagreeing with my neighbour? (PS my wife bases The Law on a Home Economics 'O'Level she got around the time humanity trekked out of Africa.)
May the bridges I burn light your way

Re: General Chit Chat
I am booked on a course with my canine companion for the last week in August as my canine companion has successfully passed a series of tests designed to evaluate whether my canine companion is sufficiently advanced in the skills required of canine companions to help myself and my (I nearly typed 'fellow' there) compatriot humans who fall foul of ascending peaks and navigating moors.
We also need, apparently, to increase our collective societal awareness of the harm performed by assigning gender stereotyping identities prior to attending the course.
Therefore my dog is no longer a dog because that would indicate she is male, the bitch!
And this from people who text on Sundays!
I'm seriously considering not bothering...

Accepting it's an "all our yesterdays" theme, but just goes to show: Back when we were kids, Ice creams were three-penny and four-penny cornets or "sliders" and a carboard carton of ice cream cost sixpence. Today I went into the local convenience store and bought a tub of Carte-D'Or vanilla ice cream and two magnum choc ices. Nearly fell off my perch when I was charged £6-30p. I checked the 500ml tub out at £3-50...and the others must have been about £1-65 each. Crazy.

Don't worry, TANGO, it's like when you wake in the morning; it's called 'inflation'
Re: General Chit Chat
An average wage is £20000 a year now. Imagine how much ice cream you could still buy if it was still 3 pence!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:08 amAccepting it's an "all our yesterdays" theme, but just goes to show: Back when we were kids, Ice creams were three-penny and four-penny cornets or "sliders" and a carboard carton of ice cream cost sixpence. Aye, terrible inflation. Especially if you bought a house at any point.
