This role will be about talking to agents and players, making deals happen - it needed a football insider who knows the game and has contacts.

It makes sense that they've found someone who was a former agent.

Isn't a former agent the root cause of our current dilemma?

Indeed. But this is a football advisor who won’t be a director and won’t have their hands on the purse strings...in theory the financial control will be done above them.

Mystifyingly popular in south London and shockingly now 29 years old, Macclesfield-born hologram Ben Amos has grabbed himself a year's contract at Charlton.

Does that mean we've got around three/five incoming players off the wage bill?

Following the lapsing of the four-year contract signed in 2015, Mr Amos has not been employed by Bolton Wanderers since Jun 30. God only knows when he was last paid by them.

In all seriousness, it might be more than three to five. I can't recall precisely the details of the last 'soft embargo' but ISTR there was an upper wage limit on new signings - possibly £1kpw? Can anyone remember?

I'm not sure whether the "cap" was set as a per player cap irregardless of our business plan. I thought I recalled if, for example, someone had signed Amos, then effectively within the business plan, the "cap" would've increased by £16k per week - or whatever the alleged amount was - then spread across the per player amount...

Interesting. You may well be right (you often are) but I have a dim recollection of a ceiling - arbitrary, as these things are, as laws often have to be. Alas and alack, the end of Amos is immaterial in this context as it's not something we've managed to get off our business plan - largely because we haven't got one, but more seriously because once we're out of admin (and then straight into embargo, via a possible extra points penalty for the Brentford no-show) Amos's weekly wedge will no longer be a saving we can make.

EDIT This (from July 2017) may be simplified for laypeople, but mentions a cap. I was miles off with the £1kpw - it was £11.5kpw in League One, which the EFL then tried to reduce to £4.5kpw once we got promoted #thanksladsthatmakesperfectsense

£600k/11.5k per week is the "Championship" player cap embedded in the rules for a team under embargo - so not calculated on an individual team's financial basis. It applies in the Championship and for teams relegated to L1 until the next "annual iteration" of them providing their FFP/SCMP disclosure - so this doesn't seem to be linked to how much a team can actually afford.

L1 Clubs operate under SCMP (Salary Cost Management Protocol) - which ties player expenditure to actual income (plus some bits)...if of course you can and do show "actual income" to them - which would require things like "Accounts"!

At some point pre-season we will have to submit am SCMP (by the third Friday in June - which musta been interesting)! Under an SCMP "embargo" the cost of the incoming player can't be more than 75% of the outgoing one.

Cheers. Fascinating. As ever there's some unintended consequences here but I wonder if FV's desire to get the hotel is part of this? Not just to make money, but to roll the whole thing into an entity that appears more profitable. Might not be a major consideration - might not be one at all.

On the last par, I wonder if that would even matter to us. Yes, someone (er, Magennis?) could go, but is surely far more likely to *now* rather than waiting until a transfer fee is required.

It would be very on-brand for us to come out of admin under some form of one-in-one-out embargo!

He's even modelled his barnet on Arnold Rimmer's in this photo.

Wheater back in training with us, per Nixon and Lion of Vienna.

Could be any number of reasons, but it's a little candle of hope.

I see that Oan Djorkaeff's signed for St Mirren. I'd have signed him just because he's his dad's lad :)

By way of former players - Antoneeeeeeeeee's signed for Wigan, Danny Guthrie [Mitra Kukar - Walsall], BIG Tom Eaves [Gillingham - Hull], Craig Dawson [West Brom - Watford] and doubtlessly several other who I've forgotten ever played for us :)
May the bridges I burn light your way

Also looks like Brockbank played for us. I'm confident he wants to stay, but we need to get that f**kin' contract signed.
