Doom... or just Gloom?
So how are we feeling in our guts?
No analysis or logic required, just a snap poll to assess the mood of the Real People.
One option per person, but you can change your mind as often as your gut lurches...
Personally speaking, right now, I'm on doomwatch.

Re: Doom... or just Gloom?
There aren't enough options.
I'm confident we'll survive liquidation and exist as a club. And that for now is absolutely fecking brilliant after the worries this summer.
After that I'm far less confident we'll do anything other than sink this season. But I'm not sure in the grand scheme of what this club has been through that matters much.
So assuming the next day or two so brings the news I expect then I'm relieved and delighted but not exactly overjoyed for the upcoming season.

I can't devise a poll that takes account of what you're feeling now and also what you think you'll feel in three months time...
That's why I've allowed the poll to be revisited so you can change your mind!
Relieved and delighted is above gloom. In three months time you'll be unoverjoyed and gloomy. The poll will reflect that, surely? If you update it.
It's meant to be a barometer of what we, the fans, think of our prospects - nothing more, nothing less.

From a scientific point of view, that's an interesting picture developing... Bell curve territory.

Re: Doom... or just Gloom?
just like in every other element of this whole fiasco -- there's an element of brinkmanship at each significant step... I hope that this is the case again now.... and that before the season starts someone blinks first and the deal is pushed through

That's the "ok we're surviving option" - I translated it out of Boltonic for the likes of Dujon and our other exiles...
But, just for you, I've amended it.

I'm another "it'll be reet" voter.
I don't think this season will be as bad as a lot of people expect once we get up and running. A fairly solid campaign battling against relegation, and ultimately succeeding, is what I'm predicting.

I voted reet, but I still think it'll be a tough season.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 9:43 pmI'm another "it'll be reet" voter.

Let's not forget we're being docked at least 12pts. The target for avoiding relegation is fairly reliably 50pts: in reverse order from last year, the top-placed relegated teams have got 50, 50, 49, 46, 50, 47, 48, 43, 47, 50. A 12pt deficit means we have to be 25% better than relegation rivals. And the EFL might well punish us further for the Brentford no-show, so it could go to 15pts or 18pts. Even on 16pts we'd have to be near-33% better than rivals. To get 69pts would be precisely 1.5pts per game, which is just off the play-off pace. Doable with a full squad nicely prepared in pre-season; less so in our case.
Re: Doom... or just Gloom?
33% better than two rivals rather than three, because if we manage that I'm confident we'll see off bury as well.
Don't know where this optimism is coming from.
Maybe this sunshine is getting to me.

Oh bloody hell, with everything that's happened since I'd forgotten about the yet-to-be-announced Brentford punishment. Obviously, depending on how severe that is, it could ensure we get relegated.
But I do feel our squad will be stronger than many imagine once the transfer window closes - I've a sneaking suspicion, for example, that Clough will be back with us again, as will Wheater - and, whilst I understand people's issues with his style of play, we'll have a manager who knows the league well.
Staying up is clearly the most optimistic of predictions, and in all probability a wrong one, so if you'd have asked me to justify it right now I'd have struggled to in any rational sense. However, I believe we'll end up being something of a surprise package, and have a hunch that we could do well if we get into a rhythm.
Nb. this is all assuming a takeover happens within the next few days, or at the very latest, early next week. If it doesn't, then all bets are off.
