First time I'd seen Burns in the flesh for an over last night. He doesn't half look odd. (Not that that seems to hold that cheating bastard back).

Did you ever see Alan Knott at the crease?

Bloody hell. When I was a kid my cricket boots were a pair of GOLA Alan Knott :)

Good news for Denley is he played and missed that last one by about half a foot and 10 seconds.

Showing fight which is really good. Had the rub of the green a bit but have to take advantage and so far we have. England have a habit of last session collapses from good positions - must not let that happen - the ball isn't doing much. Bat through this session at worst 4 down by the end of it and that is a brilliant day.

I'm still making no forwards looking statements :-) First two sessions both England's. When they talk about session cricket, we're probably 4/5 at the moment which is very good. 5/6 would be even better.

189-3 and Denly gone for 18. I'd like to say the stage is "interesting" but I think I'll hold back a bit....

A very minor point, but is it ever actually acceptable for an international test bowler to bowl a wide? Pattinson's bowled two now.

Ozzies congratulating Rory Burns on his performance today. Did we ever need a hero? Big paudits to the man. With Jimmy still uncertain (and I'd say decidedly worrying, what lousy luck for him) we need some good performances with the willow wand . Stokes too seems to be in the mood. Should be a good weekend....

Well Rory has made me look a right mug. Thanks Rory, you played the best opening test innings for England we’ve seen since Cook in his pomp.

Batting through the day is remarkable. But exactly what we needed.

When they changed the ball and seemed to get a nice new rock the lucky bastards and two fell quickly I thought here we go. But Burns held it together and Stokes looked in good nick.

If these two can survive the first hour tomorrow then we really have Aussies under the pump.

We weren't that posh. Mine were a pair of Bata white pumps with so much "Meltonion" on them it used to flake off when I ran. Image

Two days of proper test cricket for me. A full five days where neither team really dominates and I almost don't care who wins. Nice to think the game of my childhood might still exist.

Brian Luckhurst, Kent & England opening bat, worked as a rep for Lilleywhite Frowd. Each year he came to our club before the season with samples and took our orders? My chest was never so far out as the first time I walked to the wicket in my personally signed gloves and pads.

It was barely visable a couple of minutes later as I sloped back to the pavilion.

BREAKING NEWS.....

I've never been one of those partisan types, Tango. I'd rather see my preference lose a well contested match than watch them win a procession. Have never understood why anyone pays to watch Celtic. Unless they're playing Rangers of course.
