Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
If the weather forecast holds true, we might only have to bat two sessions tomorrow.
So there's that.
So there's that.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Fun fact amidst the general terrible position we’re in - Tomorrow morning Burns will have batted on every day of the test match (last couple of overs day one, all day two, early morning day three, last couple of overs day four). Can’t recall the last player to do that.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I reckon they'll use Siddell a fair bit tomorrow. He's a good bowler in his own right and he stopped us scoring grand style for long periods first innings. Let's face it, we're against a good side here. Such a shame Jimmy is out of the reckoning but I did have reservations about his fitness. His injury wasn't an Elastoplast job but a muscle tear. In retrospect....ah well, we can all say that..Give it a good go lads....

After an initial opening burst from the quicks it’ll be Lyon pretty much all day from one end, rotating the fast men at the other. Today’s a massive test for this England side.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 11:13 pmI reckon they'll use Siddell a fair bit tomorrow. England bowled incredibly poorly 2nd innings. Australia were scoring at an incredible rate we had no control and really threw this away.
Yes we all know Smith is top class but I think we need a serious re evaluation of our bowling attack. Moeen goes out for me, no question. Has no confidence. We then need to have something different to Woakes and Broad. So Archer comes in. Also let’s play an extra bowler in Curran who can also bat and leave Denly out.

Looked it up because I can remember as a kid, my old man making a big fuss of someone batting all 5 days.jimbo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 10:34 pmFun fact amidst the general terrible position we’re in - Tomorrow morning Burns will have batted on every day of the test match (last couple of overs day one, all day two, early morning day three, last couple of overs day four). Pujara India v Sri Lanka in 2017 was the last one.
For England, Freddie in 2006 v India (apparently scored 70 and 51) - the one that sprung to mind for me was Boycott against the Aussies in 1977 (scored 107 and 80*). In between those two Lamb v West Indies in 1984 (23 & 110)

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
We played with a top bowler less. A fit Jimmy A and we could have had a far different story. The selectors got to believe he was fit to play( over Archer) and well, he wasn't. Australia batted well and the day was theirs. Smith (again) was the difference and his performance inspired the rest. It happens.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 6:59 amEngland bowled incredibly poorly 2nd innings. Australia were scoring at an incredible rate we had no control and really threw this away.

Absolutely - but this was a pitch for the spinner - I'm not really sure Anderson would have made a huge difference either way second innings. Smith as I said before the series was likely to be the difference between the sides and it looks that way even more now.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 9:08 amWe played with a top bowler less. However, they were at points getting up to 4 an over. When England were on top we were restricted to 2.5 an over. We had them 80 behind - I think on that pitch you had to bowl with control and restrict scoring - we sprayed it all over the shop and the spinner was dreadful. The Aussies even when struggling kept their discipline with the ball and kept plugging away. And they only had 3 seamers and a spinner - so same as we had even with Anderson being out.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Thanks for looking that up. I remember the Flintoff one - that was aided by a near full day lost to rain.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 8:47 amLooked it up because I can remember as a kid, my old man making a big fuss of someone batting all 5 days.jimbo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 10:34 pmFun fact amidst the general terrible position we’re in - Tomorrow morning Burns will have batted on every day of the test match (last couple of overs day one, all day two, early morning day three, last couple of overs day four). Fair contradiction there given Jimmy's economy.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 9:18 amAbsolutely - but this was a pitch for the spinner - I'm not really sure Anderson would have made a huge difference either way second innings. I thinkn given that pitch it'll be a massive gamble not to pick a spinner in the rest of the series. You're not going to get 20 wickets on a pitch like that with 5 quicks, especially when 2 of them likely need to be Smith.
But Moeen looks shot. Leach? Denly looks undropable now just for his bowling! Rashid would be a gamble but he takes wickets. Would require a hell of a lot of discipline at the other end though, probs without Jimmy.

I'd pick Leach - give him a chance. Deny undroppable? Not for me....he bowled 14 overs at 5.14 for 0 wickets... and scored 18 first innings....if that's undroppable - its desperate.Prufrock wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 10:42 amFair contradiction there given Jimmy's economy.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 9:18 amAbsolutely - but this was a pitch for the spinner - I'm not really sure Anderson would have made a huge difference either way second innings. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Think they have a tough job and I'm normally quite sympathetic, but the umpiring this test has been poor (for both sides). Especially the number that are clearly going down leg. Bowler coming round wicket and hitting in line a yard in front of the crease, has to almost off-break it at right angles to straighten it up - and I'm no defender of batsmen

The Denly comment was tongue v in cheek!
Joel Wilson doing well.

Roy - what was that? In fairness it isn't his game this. Never expected him to last all day. But gave that away needlessly.

It was a shocking shot. What the feck are we doing opening with a guy who should be coming in at 5?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:22 pmRoy - what was that? In fairness it isn't his game this. Never expected him to last all day. But gave that away needlessly.

The bigger question than Roy for me - is what is Denly doing anywhere near an England side? Get him out. Get Ali out.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:34 pmIt was a shocking shot. Those have to be two changes plus Archer for Anderson.
Curran and Leach in.
Roy at least batted some time today. I think he's going to frustrate mainly but come off once or twice and score quick runs. I can live with Roy - it isn't ideal but we're limited on options. But Denly is just way off this level. Ali is in a confidence slump and we can't carry two players next test.
