Who's the naked woman on the white horse? H v Coventry 10/Aug/19

Post by Lost Leopard Spot » Sun Aug 04, 2019 12:24 pm

Come on Shazza, I know you said you'd give the shirt off your back, but no need for that!

So many questions.
Will the takeover be completed beforehand?
Can we have any more new registrations?
Will the nickname Monty Zouma stick?
Where will Magennisgate be at?
Will our loyal home supporters turn out in their massed thousands?
Will the season ticket holders be there? [sorry, what, what do you mean there are no season tickets  ]
Will we score?
Will the result push us off the bottom of the table?
That's not a leopard!

God, I've a feeling the takeover still won't be complete before this game...

As of yet no tickets on sale for this. Not even to away fans. Coventry say they do not know when they will be selling tickets for it....

Let's say the takeover does go through, where are we up to with the SAG? Have the stewards and turnstile bods been paid yet?

I don't think SAG is an issue either way as I think those staff have all been paid up to date whilst in admin. The non footballing staff. At least that is what we are told. And the Rugby took place seemingly without any SAG issue...

I didn't know Coventry had got a ground to sell tickets from. At least we've still got that, for the moment.

I did refrain from putting "bird" in there. I thought bint was more neutral.

I'm always terribly offended when anyone refers to me as a bloke.

How very rude!

Could be a battle of the babies. Coventry's win over Southend featured a starting XI with an average age of 24. Second half substitute 18 yr-old Josh Eccles reduced it even further.

I've only ever known it as a derogatory term.
As a derogatory term it derives from British sailors' slang, but it has a much longer history and a much wider usage, even in English.
It is an actual word and ultimately comes from proto-semitic -bint which is the patronymic form for a female, meaning daughter of X. The word passed into many Semitic languages and is perpetuated today in particular in Arabic where it means daughter or girl, and Hebrew where it means a woman, specifically a female who has passed her bat mitzvah at the age of 12 (Orthodox Jews) or 13 (Reform Jews).
When British troops occupied Egypt in the nineteenth century they adopted the word straight out of Arabic and adapted it to mean girlfriend. Later, British sailors' used it to mean "a bit on the side". It was even later, during the second world war readopted by British soldiers, especially Montgomery's Desert Rats, to mean merely 'a woman'.
So :P

I was once reminded that 75% of the letters in "bint" are also in the word "bobbitt"...

Did you defend the record shop manager who was (unsuccessfully) prosecuted in '78 for displaying Never Mind the Bollocks? :D
