Puppy Love... (H) v Donny. 8pm Tues 20/Aug/2019 : CANCELLED

Post by Lost Leopard Spot » Mon Aug 19, 2019 1:06 pm

Will our puppies come out to play? Will this be our last match ever? Will we get thrashed? Can we book the club a spot on the next series of 'Repair Shop'? Will Boo Hoo shares hit an all-time low?

....

And they called it puppy love
Just because we're in our teens
Tell them all, please tell them it isn't fair
To take away my only dream

Someone, help me, help me, help me please
Is the answer up above

Shocking thread titles this term. I thought the Rioja formula was well established.

We haven't conceded at home all season.

I hope that when we do, our fans don't blame the poor bloody infantry.

I’d swap keepers! 😉

My first midweek game for a long time. School holidays makes the M62 more bearable and some strange sense of duty hanging over me...

Come October getting beat 5-0 every week is going to be less appealing in all honesty.

Anymore injuries from the weekend?

Apparently not, although tender young soft tissue could twang at any time. Hopefully Politic, who was rated 40/60 for Saturday, will be back.

They're right comedians, the Doncaster fans, here's a sample from their fan forum about the game with us:

It’s 20:00 kick off. So there’s 15 mins extra rest for them

It will finish past some of their player's bedtime.

Statement on behalf of Paul Appleton, joint administrator for Bolton Wanderers

It is with real regret and a deepening sense of frustration that we have been forced to postpone tomorrow's fixture against Doncaster Rovers.

Whilst the threat of further EFL sanctions is obvious, nothing can be allowed to impact on the welfare of such a young group of players. With so many senior players injured or unavailable, the squad has performed heroically and deserves so much credit.

But after consultation with the club's medical staff, it is obvious that to call on them for another match without an adequate break would be detrimental to both their welfare and development which cannot be allowed.

We were able to bring in reinforcements before the match against Coventry because the deal was so close to completion. Now, following recent events, the legal position of various parties has altered which means a delay in completion. In this situation, it is very difficult to attract available players to the club.

I will be discussing the implications with the EFL but in the meantime, I would call on all parties involved with the acquisition of the club and hotel to end this intolerable delay and secure once and for all the future of Bolton Wanderers.

Further details on reimbursement for any tickets sold for tomorrow's game will follow.

Well, here's hoping that the parties involved whose priorities are the welfare of Bolton Wanderers football club, as opposed to greedy money-grabbing Shylocks' spivs, shysters, financial advisers, hedge fund managers and all their legal their "associates", win the day, although it may just all be a case of too little too late.

Doncaster fans not happy. A small selection of their whingeing:

I’d have thought that in order to postpone a game it needs to go through the correct channels, be agreed with the EFL and then communicated to the opponents.

You cannot just decide to postpone a game off your own back because your players might be tired otherwise every club would do it when they have fixture congestion

Send them the bill and join the massive list of creditors. This lot are taking the piss.

BBC Radio Sheffield reports that, at the time of Bolton's statement on Monday concerning the postponement of Tuesday's game, Doncaster were not aware that a decision had been taken.
Rovers are understood to be continuing to prepare for Tuesday's fixture until they are told otherwise.

I think it's probably the right decision but I'd have hoped we'd at least have waited for some reluctant confirmation from the EFL & poor Donny. If we've cancelled it ourselves that's a further 3pt penalty at least, although I suspect we'd still get punished even if they gave permission for the game not to go ahead.

Nah. But let's not forget we've still got the carpeting for Brentford yet.

Understandably, Donny have seen their arse.

“Bolton Wanderers have postponed this game without the agreement of Rovers or the EFL, and we were surprised to learn of the news via Bolton’s social media.

“We have a lot of sympathy for Bolton’s plight, but we’ve prepared for this game as normal and fully expected it to go ahead. We will work with the EFL to understand this situation and keep supporters as informed as we can when we are able to say more.”
https://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/new ... s-fixture/

So have the EFL.

“Bolton Wanderers has this afternoon announced it will not fulfil its League One fixture against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

“The club has stated it has taken the decision to postpone the game as a result of concerns over the welfare of its young players, given the frequency of fixtures and the impact this would have on their physical and emotional well-being.

“The EFL understands the challenging position the club currently finds itself in whilst negotiations continue over its purchase. However, it would have expected the club to have first interfaced with the EFL, giving it an opportunity to consider the application to postpone, and consulted with the club’s opposition, Doncaster Rovers before making a public announcement.

“The EFL remains acutely aware of the ongoing risks this challenging and complex situation has to the integrity of the competition.”

Pretty obvious any tears shed on our behalf are pure crocodile ones. Course Doncaster and anybody else want to play a team that's just a couple of veterans and young kids and ensure themselves of three easy points. Why wouldn't they, it's the fans views and they don't give one for us any more than we would for them with situations reversed. I'd always prefer to know where we stand with folk, and it's pretty obvious with the Tranmeres' and Doncasters' of football. I reckon they might not be so keen if we get sorted and sign a few players before we do play them. xxxx em.

We may end up the last club in the league with a home clean sheet record!
