Just told a friend and the response was "He's useless him"

Never going to win with whoever they bring in.

I despair at times. As DSB states, I think the expectations need to be wound in a litte.

Wonder if Gary Rowett would be up for a challenge?

Indeed. We're a lower league club for a while now. We need to ensure we have someone who understands that and can build something piece by piece.

I know a lot of Dale fans and have seen a lot of games whilst Dale were under Hill. When he was initially linked with us, maybe after Freedman left, I was against it. He basically ran Rochdale, and I thought the difference in size and fan base would be too much for him. It wasn’t unusual for Hill to have a pop at the Dale fans in the press, and that might just be a couple of moaning old timers sat behind him in the crowd, so imagine him with 15,000 (arf!) on his back. I believe he struggled with that in his brief spell at Barnsley as well and a lot of Rochdale fans agreed.

However given the situation we’re in now (might be pessimistic but I’ve accepted we’ll be in League Two next year) and with his track record of getting teams out of that league, I’ve come around to the idea and whilst there are other options too, it would definitely be one I’d consider.
Interesting, cheers Chester (I like to imagine that's your real name :D). What did the Dale fans (and for that matter you) think of his style of football?

Nolan for me. He's got nothing to lose and neither have we.

I do think we've got to accept relegation as more than just a probability and give a manager time to build a squad and a style over at least 18 months. If we're not top six in L2 by February 2021, then and only then would it be fair to agitate for a change.

I do of course reserve the right to whinge prior to that.

Tell you what - first time in ages everyone is behind the club. Everyone pretty much gets where we are and that we were hours away from liquidation. So any manager will get a good crack I think.

Even though I say David Lee -- I'm just thankful that we still exist - and can have this conversation about having a new manager

Whoever we get -- I expect us to go down

I also hope/expect that they will give the young lads who played for us in our hour of need MORE THAN A GOOD OPPORTUNITY to stake their claim in professional football

Are we thinking we'll be getting a DoF as well? Allardyce DoF and Nolan manager would be incredibly feel good - and you'd think that Big Sam would fill any gaps Kev has in terms of networking, contact book and clout at the negotiating table. But then I'm obviously being incredibly nostalgic and perhaps not pragmatic.

As much chance of Allardyce as we've got of Pep. Listening to Allardyce on TS recently he's had little comprehension of what's going on here and doesn't seem all that interested. He's not coming back to mess around in the lower leagues with owners who clearly aren't going to be bankrolling us to glory.

It would have to be on a freelance basis as I doubt we'd have the cash to have him in as a DoF. I'm sure Kevin Nolan would have access to his contacts as I'm sure they still communicate with each other.

As much as I loved Allardcye and that era, I don't want him back in any capacity

Let Nolan be his own man, should he get the job

I thought he said he wouldn't be manager without some serious high rollers but might take some background role. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I were him. Down the road, desk job but with influence, chance to rebuild from scratch (maybe he'd resent having lost what he built originally). Consider it an easing into full retirement.

Look at Man Utd with Alex Fergusson still hanging around.

I agree the new man needs a fresh start.

Not sure we need a DoF. Just get the right manager who will promote kids, and get him to work closely with the Academy.

Jiminho - who has no reason to lie and every reason to want the best - has noted that well before this season, Parkinson made lemonade when life gave him lemons, welcoming the proximity of the kids at the training centre, regularly promoting the best for a session or two with the big boys, making a clear path to the first team. JP called him the best manager he'd worked with for including the kids. That must continue.

Problem with a DoF is they tend to be judged on their signings. Needn't be so.

Our favourite Scotch hack seems to be saying FV wanted Pearson in a higher role with Parky staying on. Warburton was also mentioned early on (was that with FV? I think so but may be wrong). Both those ships have sailed but to me we don't need a DoF so much as a good chief scout and a network underneath him. Whither the Ian McNeill de nos jours?

In his previous managerial tenures did Nolan's teams play an attractive style of football? Is he seen as being tactically astute, or more of a 'man manager' type?

For a multitude of reasons I think it is imperative that the new owners hire a coach who promotes attacking football and is willing to integrate younger players.

I'll just mention the last manager we got from Notts County didn't do half bad.

Exactly.

That and his style of football has got worse over the years.

What a wonderful day.

Really not sure Nolan is what we need. From seeing a couple of his Notts County games, he has very much a BSA philosophy. Apart from anything else that demands experienced, physical players, of which we currently have zero.

Holloway, Monk, Hill all sound good shouts...
