They're going to beat us by an innings. By an innings, I tellz ya.
Its very very very poor from England. The whole performance after Stoke's heroics has been shambolic. When we should have been tearing into the Aussies.

400 in this series is equivalent of 600 in a normal test. Massive score. When I think we should have had them for 200 max. And 250 would have been advantage Australia.
From the clips I've seen the pitch looks pissed wet through and they're still smacking it to all corners.

497 behind the Oz first inning at Old Trafford in the rain. Hardly seems believable...but it is.

Fun fact update: we’re now 13 opening partnerships into this series and the highest remains 22. Not a good time to be an opener.
Make that 14.

I'll tell you summat else that disappointed me yesterday, other than us getting tonked, the boo-ing of Smith when he reached 200 and when he was out. Show some grace, you pricks. It was only a minority, I'm sure, but enough to be heard. Boo him when he comes out, if you must, but do try to move on and appreciate that you're watching the best batsman on the planet just now.

Agreed. What they did was wrong, and having a bit of fun with them to begin with was fine. For someone to sit and watch him and be more concerned with booing rather than appreciating a fine performance by the best player of his generation is just really sad.

Opening batting fun fact alert:

In this series Rory Burns has scored more runs than the other openers combined. He is getting his runs at an average of 45, while the others average 11 between them.

They usually check no balls I think. I guess the tortuous reasoning is that you shouldn't be out from an unfair delivery (but it's fine for you to be wrongly out from a fair delivery).
Correct. Every dismissal is routinely checked for a no ball as the batsman is leaving the field. It came in about 4 years ago off the top of my head. There’s been debate about whether it’s led to more no balls being missed, as the umpires know there’s always the back up if a wicket falls.
Pretty much every side on angle of Cummins today has looked like a no ball. One finally called by the umpires! 50!

There’s a video of him on the BBC live feed of him playing a short ball from Cummings beautifully. Right up to his chin, watches it all the way and drops it into the offside.

Good session that. Could do with another one now. Get to the end of the day with 4 down max and I'd say a draw looks v doable. Lyon getting plenty of turn and bounce, mind.

Making them bat again is a big aim. After last week I’d assume any declarations from Australia would be on the conservative side, which would give us a decent chance of batting out the game.

How quickly the see-saw can crash down from an upper position. We were doing so well; Root and Burns added 150 between them but we're not looking quite so certain now at 200-5 as bad light ends play for the day. Let'e hope the Stokes and Bairstow show can swing it back around to level at least tomorrow. .
