Assuming Bury are in existence! Things look worse for them than us. Not even Bassini fancies a crack at Gigg Lane

Bury’s 12pt deduction confirmed. We might only start three or six points behind them...

The piece in the Bury Times today shows how much trouble we're in. They have players turning up for their pre season friendlies and have 27 players on trial. We're still a way of that yet it seems.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 6:15 pmBury’s 12pt deduction confirmed. We might only start three or six points behind them...

Re: League One 2019/20
Yes, it's subject to a lot of ifs, but I've still not given up yet. With possibly only two real relegation places i's twice as hard as usual to go down, but by God some teams are giving it a go.
Southend have played four, lost four, conceded 10 and scored 1 (an own goal when already 3-0 down). They were also pants last season, only staying up because they beat playoff-marooned Sunderland on the last day. Kevin Bond, aka the Phil Neal to Redknapp's Graham Taylor, has won two of his ten games. Catchable.
Accrington only have one point from three games (they had a Bury game postponed) and in midweek they lost 3-2 at home after being 2-0 up with 15 to play. They also lost their other home game; the point came away to another bobbins team...
...AFC Wimbledon, for whom it was their only point in four games so far. The Dons have scored in every game, but they've conceded at least two in every game, except at home to Accy, who had just gone down to 10 men. In midweek they lost in the 94th minute. In the cup, after their own 94th-minute equaliser, they lost at home to their hated franchise nemesis team on penalties. None of this is fun.
Gillingham were always going to struggle after losing Tom Eaves (no really) and so it has proved. Three games, four goals, two points; throw in the League Cup game (which they lost on penalties at home to Newport - oh the glamour) and they've conceded five equalisers in four games. Takes some doing, that.
And finally for now, Tranmere. Yes, they beat up our kids, and we'll never get those three points back. But otherwise they're W0 D0 L3, F2 A7, and even those two goals were pointless consolations after going 3-0 down at home to Rochdale.
So there's catchable teams above us. All we have to do is....

Oof. Wouldn't it be something to stay up on the final day at their expense?

Re: League One 2019/20
Update on this, as the mood has perked.
SOUTHEND have now played six, lost six, F4 A17 - they've conceded as many as our kids. They were 3-1 up at Wycombe but lost 4-3 to goals in the 55th, 89th and 92nd minutes; then they lost 4-1 at home to McDons in the League Cup, then 3-0 at home to Rochdale in the league, then (FWIW) 2-0 at Orient in the FL Trophy. They should have played Pompey away this weekend but it was postponed due to international call-ups. Their average of 2.2 accurate shots per game is second lowest only to our U18s. They smell of mortality.
AFC DONS have two points from six games, F5 A10 - so they're not losing by lots, but they're losing a lot. Last week's 0-0 at home to Wycombe came after a 3-1 loss at Sunderland, the only league game they've lost by more than one. Still, they're 13 points above us, we have a game in hand and we have to play them twice, so if we max out those opportunities we'll only need them to drop four more points... which should happen within a fortnight. Their average of 8.8 shots per game is the second-lowest after our U18s team (Wycombe are top with 16.7). Oh and this Saturday they're away at Milton Keynes.
Start to reel in those two and we can begin to dream of overtaking an all-important third team, probably (but not definitely) from among the five teams who are averaging a point per game or less: Accy (4pts from 5), Tranmere (4 from 5 - including 3 v our U18s), Oxford (5 from 6), Pompey (5 from 5), Gillingham (5 from 5 - including 3 v our U18s).
Ain't over yet.

Until now, I've been very sceptical about our chances of staying up. But, when you put it like that ....

Re: League One 2019/20
Kevin Bond has resigned as Southend boss. Which is a pity mainly because he's rubbish, but also because it means if they lose their next one the WDL tally won't read "Bond: 007".

Accrington release a very supportive statement about Billy Kee, their absent dangerman who's scored 42 over the past two seasons but been absent this term. I genuinely wish him good luck and selfishly suggest he takes as long as he needs...

Re: League One 2019/20
A mixed three-game week for our (potential) rivals at the bottom of the third tier.
AFC WIMBLEDON continue to be not quite good enough. Drew 1-1 at home to Shrewsbury, lost 2-1 at Cov and then lost 3-1 at home to Bristol Rovers; in each game they took, and lost, the lead. Yesterday was their seventh loss but only their second by more than one goal. I'm hearing from someone at the club that they've really cut back on finances, in advance of moving back to Plough Lane. It's not working. They're on 3pts from 10 games, so we've got two games in hand on our nearest rivals.
SOUTHEND, having already turfed Kevin Bond, put Gary Waddock in temporary charge, drew 3-3 at home to Fleetwood, lost 4-3 at Shrewsbury then, annoyingly, won at MK Dons yesterday. Among the spectators was Henrik Larsson, who is said to be on the verge of taking over as manager. That will be an interesting circus. They're now on 4pts from 9 games.
POMPEY are just above the dots. They too have games in hand but they've only got 6pts from 7 games and a vocal slice of their fans have turned against Kenny Jackett. After an international break last Saturday they drew 2-2 at home to Burton (from 2-0 down, with 95th-minute pen), then lost 1-0 to a late penalty at Wycombe yesterday.
ACCY are on 7pts from 9 games. This week they've lost 3-1 at home to Sunderland, drawn 1-1 at Wycombe and then conceded a 92nd-minute equaliser at home to Blackpool.
TRANMERE, the bastards, are also on 7pt from 9 after winning yesterday. Last Saturday they lost 3-0 at Oxford, and in midweek drew 2-2 at home to Posh from two down, but yesterday at home to Burton they went into injury-time losing and managed to win, Cheers, Burton. Still, that's their only league win except against our kids.

Re: League One 2019/20
Saturday’s opponents (and thoroughly unexpected early-doors relegation candidates) Pompey got done 4-0 at home tonight - in the Sherpa Van, but by their vitriolically hated rivals Southampton’s kids. That will have gone down like a cup of cold second-hand sick. If Jackett survives it could be a bad atmosphere on Saturday, especially if we start like we did our last away game.
Re: League One 2019/20
Tbf, was in the Coca-Cola. Fairly strong, adult, Saints team (Ings, Soares and Redmond the scorers). But they've apparently been dreadful and that'll hurt. Full stand of saints fans still locked in about 20 mins after the final whistle having a great time.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.
That it's going to lose its mind
