Mike Pollitt in as goalkeeping coach - very good appointment, Bolton lad & Bolton fan (I believe), big step up in quality IMO from Lee Butler.

Are there any footballers from Bolton not employed by us now? When’s Nicky Hunt get a gig?

Re: New ownership - Football Ventures
I'm pleased enough with Mike Pollitt and it's an obvious bonus that we have yet another Boltonian involved in things, however I hope being a native isn't becoming an overbearing consideration in our recruitment policy. It's good to have a local presence behind the scenes, but ability has to be the number one priority.
I'm not necessarily arguing that it is, but all of our footballing appointments (with the exception of the players) thus far under the new ownership were born in the town. For all we know, they might've been the best candidates, but at the same time, I'd like to think we're casting our net wide enough to make sure they are.

Word out that Peter Kenyon has been 'helping out' with the board and club this week.
Hope I'm wrong but this feels slightly worrying..

I see our old friend, Laurence, is declaring bankruptcy for a 3rd time. His legal costs in trying to take us over have done for him. Wheres Sir Dave Rich when you need him?!

Re: New ownership - Football Ventures
I see that FV are calling a meeting to discuss relocating those who sit in the upper tiers down into the lower tiers. Not sure I buy into this 'to improve the atmosphere' guff though.
Also, I do hope that they'll also relocate the people from the upstairs kiosks and add them to the sedentary sloths downstairs, as it's difficult enough to get served as it is.

Makes you wonder how expensive the ground is to run compared to others. Bradford will be a comparable I guess - can’t be many others that have been in league two. I hope it’s cost effective to keep at least one upper tier open, but this club has got to become self sufficient soon.

Re: New ownership - Football Ventures
Has Bradford's ground got tiers, as such, barring the old away end? They also kept filling theirs with very low-cost tickets. Pompey also had a sizeable ground in Division Four but again not tiered. Genuinely struggling to think of a(nother) stadium with eight tiers in total which has been in Division Four. As you say, we have to become self-sufficient but equally, as you also say, it's partly an economic question if keeping the upper tiers costs money we could save. It's a hard one to judge - if you ask people of course they'll say keep it open, but what if (for sake of argument) the price of a ticket upstairs has to go up 50% to cover costs?officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:06 pmMakes you wonder how expensive the ground is to run compared to others. Re: New ownership - Football Ventures
Valley Parade has three stands with upper tiers, DSB. These two and the one behind the goal where they put us. When I first went to the (pre fire) VP, the away fans were put on a flat length of concrete with a cowshed roof over it facing the main stand.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:10 pmHas Bradford's ground got tiers, as such, barring the old away end? Didn't FV carry out a feasibility study into closing the upper tiers and found it not to be particularly fiscally advantageous?
Also, although I sit in the lower tier already so it won't affect me, I've formed a bond and a friendship with those around me - we've all sat in the same seats for years. I think I'd be a bit miffed if I was made to sit elsewhere.

I genuinely have no idea what (if) it would save. I’m happy to go with FV though - who have billed it as a move to improve the atmosphere in any case. But I do wonder how expensive we will be to run compared to say Forest Green!

Bruce - cheers - last time I went to VP might have been the one when Sasa Curcic ripped them apart but they gave MOTM to Wayne Jacobs...
Was FV's fiscal study based on crowds in Div Three or Four?
