All the best, Ben. A reliable part of the team which gave us two end of season pitch invasions.

Aye - story here: https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2019/decemb ... wanderers/

"Bolton Wanderers Football Club can confirm that Ben Alnwick will be free to look for another club after both parties reached an agreement to cancel his contract.

Alnwick arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium in the summer of 2016 and went on to make 95 appearances for Wanderers.

He was a key figure in the team that won promotion from League One in 2017 and was named the Club’s Player of the Year in 2018.

Everybody at Bolton Wanderers Football Club would like to thank Ben for his service and we wish him well with his future endeavours."

Good luck to him - question is, do we try to get another senior keeper in? I'd say possibly not, because the rules are more lax for emergency keeper loans if needed... risky but there you go...
Happy enough with Matty Alexander as back-up. Seemed promising enough in his couple of senior appearances this season, and I'd rather be training up one of our youngsters than handing a space on the bench to a has-been journeyman - particularly as we're more likely to get a Paddy Kenny or a Paul Rachubka than a Matt Clarke...

I couldn't believe it when we signed him. I'm fairly certain his career was some kind of social experiment. Either that or a practical joke that got out of hand.

We need to sign a good Senior keeper to replace Ben. Definitely not comfortable with a 17 yr old being our only option if Remi gets injured. Its a specialist position which requires a lot of experience in this league.

I assume we could always sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan if necessary.

Yup.

If we have the opportunity to sign outfield players of quality then we in my opinion we use that spot for them. The likelihood is actually that Remi won't get injured.

We're only going to get a journeyman anyway. Use it elsewhere and get world champion Andy Lonergan on loan if it goes tits up.

Shame re Alnwick. One of few championship level players we have. Hope he works through whatever problems there are there.

Read my comments carefully. Remi could also do with some competition wouldn't you agree?

Fark, looking at DSB's post I can see Darcy is still on a youth contract! :|

We need to get him tied down on a pro deal asap, because I can only imagine the vultures in higher leagues will be circling again.

Might not be gospel on those matters. But I assume the last mention of his contract was him being a scholar rather than pro (unlike, for example, Politic).

It seems Verlinden's loan has come to an end and possibly Bridcutt's too.

Hill sounds like he's been caught unawares. Shouldn't both of these situations have been discussed with their parent clubs over the past few weeks?

You would have thought so Bruce, and replacements lined up I would have thought.

Hill & Flitcroft have had 3-4 months to plan for this transfer window, I'm probably doing Hill a disservice but I do get the impression that he's 'winging it' on a day to day basis & FV don't know enough about football to question anything he does.

When he got the job over Nobby Nolan, was it not reported that it was because he'd done his homework and research on players and had contacts in place to start signing players? Or were the incomings set up by that richly rewarded agency bloke? If the former you'd expect him to have a long list. Things change all the time though. Stoke manager might look at Verlinden and think he's not good enough yet and offer him back.

Actually just seen Iles suggesting that he won't be back.
If we had anything to play for it would be a blow, instead it leaves space for a loannee that we might be able to keep next season.

Indeed. Its a blow in the sense that he was getting better and better and was a good watch and seemed a nice lad who wanted to do well. I thought he was lacking in end product at the start but he's grown here. But regardless he wasn't trudging round league 2 next year - so this is an opportunity to take a look at someone who might be. Bed them in. There will be players in January out of contract in the summer - where clubs might be desperate to save their wages. Take a look at someone we could then perhaps keep.

Like we have with Chicksen for example. We may even persuade a club to release a player on a free in such a circumstance so we could sign them now.

Has to be an eye on the future now. For me it doesn't make sense to keep Bridcutt or Verlinden because neither are here next season. Wright - possibly could be. Earl is versatile so if he can stay it wouldn't be bad even though we know he's not coming back next year.

Wright should be nowhere near the team. He's an awful defender. League 2 is not going to be easy and he'd be shown right up.

David Wheater is available in June. Get him back as captain. Something we've missed this season when Bridcutt has been out.

I don't think Wright is awful by any stretch. Oldham fans are slating Wheater also - he's past it, unfit, and bringing him back would be madness now.

Wright would benefit from having some screening in front of him - he makes errors but for example down to ten men against Shrewsbury when we sat in, he and Earl were excellent.
