Oh - 120 odd for 3 after Denly fails yet again (what a shock!!!!!).

If you cut Denly open you will see "20-40" all the way through him like a stick of rock.
Steady now though. Reached 200 for 4. Everyone's contributed so far, even if not massively.

224 for 4 at Stumps. We've had worse first days.

Indeed. As ever, tomorrow it would be good not to end up 252 AO.

Indeed. However, the BBC are reporting it as us "Having the edge". What? After one day and less than a half an innings? They don't half talk some shite.

Pretty happy so far. Two lovely hundreds. Whilst it looks like a good pitch to bat on (and will be for them), scores of 450/450+ still have to be accumulated. So it could end up a draw and I probably wouldn't want them to get 650, but we've put ourselves in the driving seat, which is all you can ask.

Couple of downsiders, but no point being too picky!

Couple of reverse pulls from Pope Vs Rabada. Wonderful.

Edit:

And a Declaration that wasn't. Great move by Root.

Pope's strike rate was higher than Stokes.

Aye Wood had a strike rate of 200 and Pope was up in the 130's, so they shifted it along nicely. Solid start in reply so far. Can't really judge a wicket until both teams have had a go...

Read all Wilbur Smith's novels and, off-hand, I can't remember rain ever being even mentioned. Just saying.... :)

To my expert eye out looks v much like it all turns on if we can knock them over and enforce the follow on. Tough act to get them out, bat again, be comfortable we can't lose then get them out again, particularly on that pitch. I know it isn't trendy anymore but they've only bowled 2 (?) sessions and you imagine Bess will take a lot of the overs.

Draw otherwise I reckon.

I'd say, get De Kock out and let'd call it from there.
