Final score was 1-1. Buckley came on as a sub and just four minutes after he came on he was off injured....Looking grim.Prufrock wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:15 pmJust got in, had no idea of the score (forgot we were playing which says a lot) and no idea what this is about, but I bet I can guess? Christ.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 9:47 pmAbsolute sickener for poor Buckley. Got to feel for the lad. (and the club)

Has that been confirmed? This morning's BN (written last night) fears broken leg. It was a broken kneecap last time he was assaulted, at Rochdale.

In fairness to Buckley it was a shocking tackle from behind. The ref didn’t even give a free kick let alone a card!
However
Buckley is made of glass. We all knew it would end this way. Why the feck waste the money?

Not just the money, but the squad space. If he was gonna be out for three months* (ie the season) would we be able to release him and free up another slot?officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 1:30 pmIn fairness to Buckley it was a shocking tackle from behind. *Speculation for conversation. Not ITK or from a thing you haven't read. The value of your injury can go down as well as up

I don’t think we will see Buckley again. Be too late by the time he returns. I wonder if we can do what we did with pratley and de-register him?

You can imagine if this had happened during Ken's time, the email to the EFL withdrawing his registration would have been drafted and sent before Buckley was even in the back of the ambulance!officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 2:25 pmI don’t think we will see Buckley again. Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Will Buckley sustained a fractured tibia during last night's Sky Bet League One fixture against Bristol Rovers at the University of Bolton Stadium.
The midfielder will undergo an operation in the next few days to have it surgically repaired.
Everybody at Bolton Wanderers Football Club wishes Will all the best with his recovery.

Hill on why we recruited Buckley (sort of)
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/1 ... roken-leg/
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/1 ... roken-leg/
We are in a market, we’re hunting, we’re trying to recruit. We can only bring in five loans so we need permanent signings but the quality of those players out there is sparse. If we [had] taken any more than five loan signing then it creates drama, an odd one out. We desperately need that siege mentality and we can’t exclude anyone so we want people we can keep. So it was the right place at the right time to recruit Will on a permanent.

I feel sorry for Buckley, but what a disastrous decision to re-sign him. If it hadn't been this it would've been something else.

Yeah, that Buckley's a c*nt.
Fancy signing a contract just so you can break your leg.!

We should put you in charge of player recruitment, natch?!

I suspect it doesn’t pay as well as it used to! Plus I couldn’t work with Keith...
Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
Barnsley and Sunderland being linked with Luca Connell. What a shame that FV weren't in place in time to keep this lad, as I'm sure he would have been a tremendous footballing and financial asset for the club had he signed professionally.

While I fully agree with the sentiment, I note from this morning's BN that Ronan Darcy hasn't signed a professional contract yet and is therefore quite able to be plucked away by anyone offering him one.
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/1 ... ry-window/
That is not to say that BW/FV haven't offered Ronan pro terms. I'm sure they have. But he hasn't signed them, and frankly I think Luca Connell would have been mad to do so. That financial-asset thing hasn't gone unnoticed by even young players.

I do think Connel made the wrong move - Leeds were sniffing and if there is a manager out there who trusts and develops young players it is Bielsa.

Interesting on Bielsa. Leeds' squad stats suggest he has a core of players he trusts - in their 29 league games, 12 players have featured 20+ times, then it drops off a cliff. Eddie Nketiah would argue he didn't get the chances he might have wanted, which is kinda why they brought him back. Same for Jack Clarke who Spurs recalled.
But I can't necessarily blame Bielsa - it's a bastard league to blood players in, whereas you can imagine at Celtic a youngster would frequently get free hits - the last half-hour when the game's won, or a game against a struggler in which you can rest a stalwart and "carry" a kid.

Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
Nixon, usual caveats:
"Bolton. Hopeful of taking Kean Bryan from Sheff U. Versatile defender. Charlton were sniffing. Seem to have gone elsewhere."
Just turned 23, 6ft 1, used to be a box-to-boxer then switched to centre-back. Mancunian, on City's books from age 11 to 22, ended up skippering their dev squad but never played a minute for the firsts.
As he neared 19 years of age he went to third-tier Bury for the 2016/17 season; played 13 times in all comps, arguably most notable moment being a bundle-prompting red card in the derby with Rochdale. Season after, he went to Oldham (also third tier), played 37 times and won their Young Player Of The Season award.
That summer, City released him but Sheffield United gave him a three-year contract (which therefore has 18 months to run). Blades haven't sent him out on loan and he's only made four appearances, all as sub, in his 18 months there so he needs to kick on. Huddersfield and Charlton were sniffing earlier in the window with a £750,000 fee mentioned, so I don't know why he's washed up on our shores. Maybe he won't and I've just wasted five minutes' research
