Six nations 2020

Post by TANGODANCER » Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:44 pm

Anybody following it? Ireland sprang one on Wales yesterday while we managed a scrappy gale force Calcutta Cup win against the Scots at Murrayfield after last week's surprise loss to France.. France and Italy played with a lot of passion and spirit this afternoon, and the French are looking as sharp as ever with their running and passing game in great shape. We need to beat Ireland next or we can forget the title.

Edited, got a bit carried away there.

Very difficult to judge whether our performance against Scotland was a real improvement to our first half v France as the weather was so atrocious. But it's difficult for away teams in the six nations, so happy with the win. To have any chance we probably need to win our remaining three (two of which are at home). The top two haven't travelled away yet. You could envisage France having an off day to either Wales or Ireland and we really need to beat both, which would open it up.

Speaking with limited experience of course, but of all the teams we play, France always worry me most. Getting the ball off them under normal circumstances is not an easy thing to do and they are a very quick side who prefer to work the ball forward fast, and keep possession rather than just kick for territory. The whole thing seems much harder now and it's really wide open with one loss being critical. The point you made about the weather is entirely a critical factor with boomerang balls screwing up the whole game as at Murrayfield. Hard to forecast anything right now.

Good performances by France and Scotland yesterday. England very good first half. Ireland much better second half and I thought England were marginally second best in the second 40. Overall a good win though for the boys.

Enjoyed all the games.Ireland are a good side and this an exceptional win. A touch of fortune favouring the brave, but that's the game. Losing this would have seen us out and maybe we played to defend our lead second half, but Sexton's kicking, usually a factor, was way off the mark.today, and Owen's on and many things count in the game.

Overall, against a top side, a really impressive result. My dad being Irish, the Ireland of O'Driscoll and Ronan O'Gara will always be my favourite memory of the greens, but that was yesterday, like Martin Johnson, Dallaglio and Johnny Wilkinson. Onwards, and hope Ireland can beat the French.

Scoreline and 13 players flattered Wales. Good to get Triple Crown, but hardly been vintage, played in bursts

Agreed, yes, but if you want to win you have to beat the form sides. We eased off at the end and with two men less had it sorted by then. The red card thing was a bit of a joke for me as it sure wasn't planned, but Wales, as well as knowing the game in side out, also know how to exploit things to their advantage. All considered, I thought we did pretty well. :oyea:

Not complaining. Just a bit too much indiscipline on what resulted in Genge's yellow, followed up by Tuilagi's red. They found more space because we were a body light and it led to Tuilagi's card. I thought red was a bit harsh, but the pressure was bought about from the indiscipline. There was also the three points just before half time, where we conceded a penalty on our possession when they could've all been sucking their half time oranges. We were very good overall, Wales couldn't have grumbled too much had it remained a 10 point or more gap.

Lets hope the Scots can do us a huge favour. Not likely, against the French, but stranger things, etc. Not often I cheer the Scots, but...."haste ye back, and lang may yer lum reek...." and all that stuff... :oyea:

Amazing. Never seen a French side make so many errors, handling mistakes and the Mike Tyson re-make red card. Ah well, nobody wins all the time....except us...we do it with 13 men... :oyea:
