Who'd taken Aiden Davidson or Kevin Poole right now?
I would rather have Jim Davidson in goal than Crellin.

Was it 93/94 when Aidan Davison played for most of the season?

Not that I've any inclination to do this, but my mate reckons that if you watch the video back, you'll see that Davison is at fault in some way for every goal he let in.

Sounds a bit harsh to me.

Davison came with a greater reputation than Branagan but he was a pretty weak goalie imo. He was often found wanting but at fault for every goal is a bit harsh I reckon!

Branagan was fantastic wasnt he? Only Jussi has surpassed him in my lifetime

I think Branagan had been Davidsons back-up at Millwall.

Definitely, just tell him the balls are foreign. Clean sheets galore.

I can't see anybody ever usurping Branny as being my all-time favourite Wanderers goalie. :)

Understandable having Branny as favourite but there is an argument that Jussi is the greatest player this club has ever had. One of the ten best keepers there have been playing in England in my lifetime I reckon. Fcuk knows why he didn’t sign for a bigger club!

How has the conversation got this far and not mentioned Jim McDonagh?

I was at Reading in the 96-97 season when they beat us 3-2 with Jimmy Quinn in goal for most of the second half.

I'm struggling to recall a keeper by the name of Mark Walton, btw?! Played three times for us in 94.

I vaguely remember us getting Gerry Peyton on loan from Everton but can't remember who he played against. :conf:

No idea either. Went to a lot of games around then but doesn't ring any bells. Odd.

I remember him, aye.

Simon Marland's Complete Record says Peyton played at home to Exeter, 22 Feb 91. We lost 2-1, Andy Walker scored. In what turned out to be his last season, Dave Felgate had played the previous nine games after reclaiming the gloves when Andy Dibble's loan ended. Later that season we also loaned Scottish keeper Ally Maxwell, who played thrice in April.

Three years later, Mark Walton played thrice in April 1994 –1-2 at Notts County (McGinlay scored), 0-2 home to Southend, 3-2 at Peterborough (Walker 2, OG). Aidan Davison was the default No.1 from mid-October onwards – it was him in goal at Goodison, Highbury and home to Villa in that cup run – although Leicester loanee Russell Hoult also played for us three times in November. Branagan – a 60-game ever-present the previous, promotion, season – regained supremacy for the following, promotion, season.

Indeed - I remember being in the Stretford End <snigger> when he saved a penalty from Gordon McQueen. Ordered retaken and he missed. 2 goals from Frankie that night. 2-1 Wanderers! :-)

Did he save it? I always thought McQueen had hit the post? I wasn't there, just seemed to remember reading that in the reports. How on earth did you keep quiet in the Stretford end when the late winner went in?!!

McDonaghs goal against Burnley was back in the days when it was perfectly acceptable to welly a ball the length of the pitch and hope someone could get on the end of it. We were already 2 up at half time and playing with the wind in the 2nd half. Seamus came close several times with long punts that bounced just over and into the Lever End before getting his aim in and it sailing over the hapless Billy Rourke.

There was a retake on McQueen penalty, so Jimmy saved the first, retake hit the base of the right hand upright (if memory isn't playing tricks). We were only kids (13/14), so no one really paid us much attention. :-) Jimmy made save after save. Great night

^ Ah that does sound familiar now. I'm not sure I ever fully appreciated McDonagh as he was at the end of his time with us just as I was a teenager. He'd been sent back by Everton and when I next saw him on the box for Notts County he looked past it.
