(I'm not too fussed about shots off target - they're winning nobody any games, any time soon)
DDLWDWWWW vs WWLLWLDL (better)
Ave possession: 52.6 vs 55.4 (worse)
Ave shots for: 11.6 vs 13.8 (worse)
Ave shots against: 12.6 vs 12.3 (better)
Ave shots on target for: 3.7 vs 4.7 (worse)
Ave shots on target against: 2.8 vs 4.9 (much better)
Ave xG: 1.4 vs 1.6 (slightly worse)
Ave xG against: 1.1 vs 1.3 (slightly better)
Seems like we're doing things the right way round now. Create a solid defensive foundation and build from there. No doubt the introduction of MJ Williams has helped as well.
Now it's time to really step it up and work on pulling apart defences with multiple attacking runners and one touch passing. The front 'four' with DJ and GJ pushing on certainly looks like it has potential to put some teams to the sword, hopefully starting on Saturday.

Sarce starts Saturday I would imagine. He can wear the armband, Maddison can keep the headband.

Or, do we keep the skipper revving his engine on the bench, give him the last half-hour and then start him on Tuesday at Oldham, a harder game which may require a more diligent No10? Squad management and forward planning could make all the difference...officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 6:43 pmSarce starts Saturday I would imagine. Here's an issue I have with Evatt's comments as reported by the BN about how we're better now and have 16 games left - all fine - but that we'll be better off next season (to paraphrase).
I don't like the emphasis on 'it'll be all better next season' because a) he doesn't know that and can't control it - FV might need to tighten purse strings, players might want away, signings might not fall into place b) there are 16 games left now and we have a real chance.
Allardyce when he arrived here took on the pressure to get us up - first season we came closed but Knighted out of a chance. He had to sell most of that side, rebuild on pennies and still managed to get us up next time round. The pressure of not doing would have meant the club was in big trouble financially. That is what managers have to contend with. Its their job to produce results. You can't keep saying, next season, next time because I've seen that and it often never transpires.
Get the results now, while you can. And have the attitude that should we don't go up it will get harder, because it invariably does. The expectation and reality will be next season, should we be in league 2, rightly that we go up. But we might have a smaller less able squad - but again a good manager navigates that.

Didn’t realise the guy now in charge at Barrow had such wide experience - just had a FL podcast on. Won 3 out of 4 in charge of them this season - be another tough game I think!

"Afolayan sits top of the standings for tackles attempted - and challenges won - per 90 minutes out of anyone who has played in the front four this season. He also sits top for shots taken and dribbles completed since his arrival, highlighting his involvement."

15 minutes to teamsheets. Intriguing to see what he goes with. Maybe Lee in for Tomo, although Lee may be more suited to the midweek away at Oldham. For similar reasons I'd keep Sarce, Maddison and Arthur as the final-30 subs – Isgrove was good enough on Tuesday to warrant another start, Delf would represent another striker in a game where we should have the upper hand, and Dapo has been great to watch - even if he was less impressive in midweek playing at 10 rather than wide; I wonder if, like Arthur, he's a bit better with ball at feet running at defenders from wide. We'll see. Another benefit of a strong squad is that while we may quibble with individual selections, we're not significantly weakening the XI.
COYWM. Keep rolling.

Sneaking suspicion he might start Maddison, after the build up he was given, he still needs to produce something.

Sarce and Lee in for Delf and Tomo, who drop to the bench.

Maddison the glaring omission.
Re: Will the wheel drop off? Barrow (h) 27/02/21 15:00
Maddison injured? He'd surely be on the bench ahead of Elbouzedi

That's a very strong starting 11. Should be way too good for barrow.

I see that Isgrove's made the side now his figures have been buoyed by - Successful Pass Completion: 1, Assists: 1
