And thus it transpired. A professional job.

Salford playing extra time in the pizza cup final. We’ll take that.

Morecambe's defeat means, as things stand tonight, we're deservedly in the play-off places. No club below us can knock us out of them by wining their matches in hand alone.
It hampers our ambition to reach the automatic promotion places, but still, I think it's something worth noting.

At two up on Tuesday I was shouting "we need a third, we need a third" at the screen, yet this afternoon one always felt like plenty.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 4:59 pmInteresting how that one weirdly feels better than midweek when we annihilated the 2nd-placed team for 70 minutes.
I know exactly what you mean though - a job very well done this afternoon.

I was rather hoping for late goals from our super subs Arthur and Miller, just for the headline writers

All the subs looked decent when they came on to be fair. Nobody sulking at all at the moment. Good to see.
Santos obvs motm, Williams was pretty key though as well.

I don't think crap pitches help our style, which brings me to the point of upcoming fixtures. 11 fixtures left -
We have 5 winnable home games and an away game at Grimsby. 18 points gives us 75 which should be enough for the playoffs ( still think trashmere is our destiny) . Of the other 5 we would need to win 3 for automatics, many of those remaining 5 are whats called six pointers. Irs getting interesting.

Winning when you don’t play particularly well is very very good. I think today is the sort of ‘grind something out’ day that at the end of a season you look back on as crucial.
A week off now which is absolutely good news.
Only slight downside is Sarce being injured and the top 4 all bloody winning. Especially Cheltenham’s late goal as without that....we’d be in one game of them.
However, all we can do is keep winning. If we do the very worst would be a play off spot and that was unthinkable not that long ago.
Evatt has turned it round and never have I been so glad to have been wrong. I was wrong. He’s shown an ability to turn out a side with consistent results. I’m still not 100% convinced longer term because we’ve seen similar before and I’m not convinced our form is quite as solid as is ideal. But certainly he’s proven me wrong this season and long may it continue.

I think Tranmere are on for an automatic, Cambridge to drop out. It’s whether we can reel in FGR or have left it too late.knobpolisher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:28 pmI don't think crap pitches help our style, which brings me to the point of upcoming fixtures. 11 fixtures left -

I used 'A View from the Bench' the other week, which I thought were bloody great! Tumbleweed, mate.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:23 pmI was rather hoping for late goals from our super subs Arthur and Miller, just for the headline writers

I think if Carlisle and Exeter both win all their games in hand they’d both move above us.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:12 pmMorecambe's defeat means, as things stand tonight, we're deservedly in the play-off places. Aye. I for one didn't have Elbouzedi down as being up for a wet Saturday afternoon in Stoke, but he impressed me when he came on.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:27 pmAll the subs looked decent when they came on to be fair.

Correct. Although as they both also have to come to the UniBok, it's still in our hands.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:51 pmI think if Carlisle and Exeter both win all their games in hand they’d both move above us.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:12 pmMorecambe's defeat means, as things stand tonight, we're deservedly in the play-off places. Carlisle finally won today, after getting two points from the previous eight games. They beat Bradford...

Which is why I was not so upset by Cheltenham getting the last minute winnerThe_Gun wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:51 pmI think if Carlisle and Exeter both win all their games in hand they’d both move above us.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:12 pmMorecambe's defeat means, as things stand tonight, we're deservedly in the play-off places. Midweek withdrawals from the games-in-hand pile:
1st-placed Cheltenham (Barrow H)
4th-placed Newport (Vale A)
5th-placed Tranmere (Grimsby A)
9th-placed Salford (Colchester H)
10th-placed Crawley (Walsall H)
– I mention these last two as wins would take them to within four points of us, still with a game in hand.
And then next weekend is hella fascinating.
Cheltenham (1st) host Salford (9th)
Cambridge (2nd) host Forest Green (3rd)
Tranmere (5th) host Exeter (8th)
...while Morecambe travel to decent-form Harrogate and Newport complete a three-game week with Orient at home (or in Cardiff).

Hopefully Sarc isnt out for too long. He's a big loss on current form. Nice to see a decent cameo from Elbouzadi though. He's moved ahead of Madison for one of those wide spots.

Next weekend I'm torn between wanting home wins to help our play-offs, away wins to help our automatic or draws to maybe help both!
