Please don't ever lose sight of the fact though that Coyle's valuations and a player's actual worth were rarely in the same solar system, giddy market or no (David N'Gog, anyone?)BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:14 pmThe cost for players was silly. We signed Sordell, for £3.5M
I remember you getting stick at the time for your description of Coyle. You weren't wrong though, were you?!
'Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini claimed in July 2019 he felt Bolton overpaid (for Marvellous Marvin), and he personally refunded them several hundred thousand pounds'. I don't know whether that's actually true or not, but what a damning indictment if it is.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Scored the winner against Burton on the day Wilbraham did the business...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:28 pmPreston release two forwards:
• Louis Moult, 28yo Stoke-born six-footer; scored 38 in 84 for Scots top-flighters Motherwell but never got going at PNE, amid injuries - 7 goals in 36 Champo games iver 3.5 years
• Billy Bodin, 29, more of an attacking midfielder or out wide. 39 Champo games (3 goals), 62 L1 (22 goals). Best spell was at Bristol Rovers, 31 goals in 95 games (L2 promotion season plus 1.5yrs in L1 before PNE signed him).
They're also releasing winger Josh Ginnelly, though he looks set to make his loan to Hearts permanent, plus David Nugent.
But I think he's not played for coming on for a year and a half after a cruciate...I'd say avoid. Otherwise he'd have been a good shout I reckon.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Sorry. Should have been clearer. His record at Swansea was obviously good, so it wasn’t a bad signing on paper. My bafflement comes from watching his efforts with us where he only seemed to find his level and influence things in league 1 when he was signed to do exactly the same 2 divisions higher.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:57 pmNot sure why he was very far from the worst player we signed as a premiership club.jimbo wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:48 pmIt still baffles me that he was signed to be a Premier League player for us.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:07 pmLeast of all in a coaching rolebrommers95 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 12:49 pmDazza Prazza released by Charlton (no I don't think we should re-sign him).

Even in the Third Division his improved showings were mainly Running About A Lot. I never got that impression, as with say Declan John at his best, of someone obviously better than the level he was at.

Shayne Lavery - ST - Linfield
A player that someone mentioned to me on Twitter a month or so ago and has been in the back of my mind since. The 22 year old's contract is up in June and he seems nailed on for a move across the Irish Sea (Blackpool, Motherwell and Kilmarnock rumoured to be interested).
https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/spor ... 21664.html
Picked up by Linfield in 2019 after being released by Everton, he's bagged 22 goals and 6 assists in 26 appearances in the NI Premiership this season. Possesses great movement on and off the ball.
Standard of Northern Ireland’s top tier isn’t great (probably akin to NL North/South) but he does have four Northern Ireland caps to his name and has scored goals in Europa League Qualifying against stronger opponents, including this winning goal against Azerbaijani giants Qarabag FK in August 2019.
Can’t imagine he’ll be demanding mega bucks so could be worth a punt as a rotation option.

I wonder when our retained/released list will be published. I think that will be the best indicator of our (hopefully) post pandemic ambitions.

Update: Steve Thompson has stayed on at PNE under new 'head coach' Frankie McAvoy, who has also elevated retiring player Paul Gallagher to first-team coach too.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 2:20 pmPotential first-team coaches might include Steve Thompson – yes, our old midfielder, but more importantly the bloke who was Ian Holloway's assistant in the Blackpool glory days Evatt liked so much; he's also been No2 at Huddersfield and Leeds, moving to Preston to rejoin Simon Grayson and staying on under Alex Neil. He stayed in spring when Neil left but it might depend whether Preston's next gaffer wants his own sidekick.

Evatt will be meeting players individually on Monday to discuss their future at Wanderers, with a retained list expected to be confirmed by the club at some stage next week.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Do we know why Mark Little's (according to Wiki) only played 16 games for 'The Gas' since leaving our place two years ago?
I was disappointed to see him go, and as I recall I wasn't alone.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Recurring calf problem, per local press. I liked him too, although he was much better going forward than defending IMO. He’s 33 in summer so I think he may struggle to get another contract - even the famous “pay as you play” contract (which hardly ever happened anyway) is now ruled out by squad limits.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:46 pmDo we know why Mark Little's (according to Wiki) only played 16 games for 'The Gas' since leaving our place two years ago?

Scunny release *17* players, including two ex-Wanderers. Did somebody say Gilliead was good? Name rings a bell.

He's a guy I mentioned when looking at potential wingers: https://bwfcanalysis.wordpress.com/2021 ... 3-wingers/Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 8:18 pmScunny release *17* players, including two ex-Wanderers. Did somebody say Gilliead was good? Name rings a bell.

Not a flashy winger in terms of tricks and flicks, just a hard-working, consistent 7/10 performer each week. Think he'd be a good depth option without tearing it up in L1. But if that's what we're after then we could probably just keep Isgrove.
Abo Eisa (brother of Peterborough's Mo) is another name to note from that list. The 25 year old is Scunthorpe's top scorer this season with 9. He's a tricky, pacey winger who can produce a moment of magic (see his goal v Port Vale below, 0:12) but struggles to produce it week in week out. An exciting player but one who probably needs to show more consistency if he's to make a name for himself above L2.
Important to note that these guys were actually offered new deals last month but refused to sign them hence their inclusion on the 'released' list.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I like the names being mentioned this time around as opposed to the 'bottom of the bargain bucket' kind of feeling that we've had the past 2 seasons

Evatt says Gilks was the best keeper in league two and will be ‘one of the best’ in league one. Sounds like our first choice keeper is sorted.
