Without getting into the relative merit of signing him, Clough could play in the system we ended the season playing. Delf replaced Sarce against Crawley and played precisely the sort of role Clough supposedly specialises in.

But that role in an Evatt side involves a lot of tracking back and defensive work that I just don’t see Clough doing, not to Evatt’s satisfaction. For me Zach needs to play in a team that more clearly play two up front. Or in a 4-3-3.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 2:11 amWithout getting into the relative merit of signing him, Clough could play in the system we ended the season playing. I think Ian’s moving us away from the past. Don’t see it happening given his recent issues, but he’s as talented as say Marcus Maddison so potentially a trial this summer if he’s still local? Zack needs to go somewhere and get going again.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I maintain now as I did back then; whoever came in for either Clough or Vela needed to take them as a pair. Their link-up play was some of the best I've seen, and it comes as absolutely no surprise to me whatsoever that neither have done a single thing of note since going their separate ways. And Evatt's system couldn't utilise them even as a pair, let alone Clough individually, so let's move on.

I think the attacking quartet of Clough, Ameobi, Vela and Madine were almost perfect. For me that period was some of the best football I’ve seen us play since the premiership, it was very very well balanced.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 9:22 amI maintain now as I did back then; whoever came in for either Clough or Vela needed to take them as a pair. Height, power, technical ability and Vela’s tireless running.
I think Vela would fit well into an Evatt side more so than Zach.

Aye. One year deal done and dusted, apparently.

Early days, it's still May, but I'm slightly surprised Brocky's not signed yet. Or Delaney. Wonder if their agents are refusing a short (say one-year) extension?

Possibly. But also depends who their agents are and whether they have more high profile clients taking their time.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 1:37 pmEarly days, it's still May, but I'm slightly surprised Brocky's not signed yet. Can't argue with it. He was superb in what turned out to be the promotion push after being diabolical for the first dozen games. The mentality to recover from that start impressed me a lot. I think we'll still be in the market for another centre back option, but another year of Baps is great.dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 1:33 pmhttps://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2021/may/ba ... er-season/

Ha, can you imagine Assombalonga in League One? Not a chance in hell, though. I'd not mind seeing Ash being looked at. He has the physicality some have called for off the bench and he's got connections to the club. League One is probably his level.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 1:41 pmMIDDLESBROUGH release Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher, Marvin Johnson, Jordan Archer and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

Well deserved 12 months for Baptiste.
I reckon 1yr deal with an option for another year for Fletcher wouldn't be much of a gamble.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Tutte for another year too. Evatt citing the dressing room atmosphere as well as his on the pitch contributions. Again, no issue with that one either. Not a player I rate massively, but he can do a job and the togetherness of the squad has spoken for itself recently.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Tutte confirmed on another one year deal.
I'm sure they would've discussed his position in the team and can't see him being first choice. The guys done well throughout the season. Bit surprising but I suspect he'll have to have been happy to be fighting for that spot.

Another one - Tutte signs a one year deal
I like Tutte - he's a good, experienced pro to have in and around the squad. Think he'll be a more than capable back up in L1. One of the few that can be proud of the performances they produced in the first half of the season.
