Biggest signing so far for me. A player who never belonged in league two and I suspect will do well in league one. Question mark defensively sure. But I felt we used him as an outlet especially early on and he helped us turn things round.
A player I really enjoy watching.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
John signing is a big deal. We wanted him, he had had a good look at the club etc. If he had chosen not to stay there would have been question marks. The lad has a realistic shot of getting into the Welsh World Cup squad if he plays regularly and this shows he trusts Bolton to give him a platform to show his quality.
In short....banging.
4 signings so far, all of whom look capable of transitioning up to the Championship if their time here works out ideally. No guarantees with players, but that's hugely positive.

Anyway, terrific vote of confidence in the club, and a player who should be more than good enough for the division.

I don't know who else plays left back but the do look beyond rhe Premier league and he's been capped before. I'd say he's definitely got a chance unless they're rolling in Premier LBs.The_Gun wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 5:11 pmI mean, not really, but I admire your optimism!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 4:51 pmJohn signing is a big deal. And great news for us of course! He was the one I thought we might struggle to convince

Aye, he's not getting in at first choice ahead of Ben Davies but he's defo for a shot at getting in the squad if he plays well.

Also worth remembering that Davies does get injuries. Seem to recall he has a bad one in March and he's had others that have sidelined him. Any good Welsh player could potentially get caps for them., They're always just a handful of players away from being a League One side.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
And 18 games at Luton first half of the season. He’s 22 and a regular Championship starter, so John has a way to go. Not trying to be difficult, but I’d guess he’s quite a way down the pecking order.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 5:19 pmHe's 25. Wales don't have a huge depth of players. Rhys Norrington-Davies is at the Euros after an only adequate 20 games on loan at Stoke. If John has a great season he's in the conversation.

He absolutely is and the Welsh players are there on merit, but don't forget that Josh Sheehan would have been in the provisional squad were it not for the play offs. He was included and then had to be excused, along with other play offs players.
Declan John is one of the most talented options they have at left back and he will be in with a chance of future caps. I'm not saying he will definitely get them, but he will be pushing for them.

I will say this and it’s bold. If he continues to progress and play well he can not only be part of the Welsh squad but their first choice LB. He’s got the ability - with consistent football and good coaching then sky is the limit IMO.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Our current "probable" back four are now all going into next season either only just turned 26 or young. Our oldest first choice mid, if we go with Sheehan in there, is 29.
We've the core of some real stability now. Obviously a long way to go and I think we need to do a lot more business, but we look like a proper squad with an eye on the future. No new signing over 26 yet. Loving it.

We aren’t signing kids or OAPs. Can’t really remember the last time we picked up players in their peak like we are doing right now. Not without some significant backstory like Hickman for example.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 7:12 pmOur current "probable" back four are now all going into next season either only just turned 26 or young. Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I think I agree with you and in no way want to seem contrarian, but I'm not sure we can really say these are players in the their peak. Great ages, without any doubt; but if we don't also improve them they won't get us where we need to go. They are all signing for us for a reason and it's not because they have hit the heights they are capable of in their careers. Again, not meaning to be difficult and I get it's nitpicky of me. More settled clubs would probably look on these as fairly risky transfers.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 7:21 pmWe aren’t signing kids or OAPs. It is the first time in many years where I have looked at our transfer business and thought "this is totally right", though. Maybe Johnston and Dapo won't turn into the players we hope, maybe Sheehan and John won't kick on etc - but they all have a massive chance to be big players here for the next couple of years at least.
I'm delighted, as you can probably tell.
