Tell you something too - second half when Baka came on we went direct. Evatt referenced in his post match 'you can't always play nice football' and bringing Baka on allowed us to stop trying to play out from the back. We looked far better going direct - we won second balls and then played from there. I do think we need to do that more this season - we struggled with Barnsley's press and I suspect that will happen often.

I know we'd get 45% of gate revenues as well, so from a pure financial point of view I suppose we'd want United, Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool away.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:10 amAye. The teams in European competition, including two or three glamorous near-neighbours, enter at third-round stage and are still likely to play their kids or reserves, precisely because they're in Europe.
Imagine how much Evatt would love to face (or indeed meet) Guardiola or Bielsa. He'd be buzzing like a f*cked fridge.

Be nice to get through another round for me and see if we can draw a real big fish - for the money and just for a fun away trip. Long shot though.
Away to Rochdale always good - though we usually lose.

Interesting we had seven corners last night. Be nice to have made one count...

I'm with you – I'd prefer as low a team as possible, allowing for more rotation – by then, as-yet unused players like Brockbank, Aimson, Senior, Tutte, Thomason, Comley, Crawford, Politic, Darcy might be itching for action. The following midweek is a Sherpa Van game at home to Port Vale, so they could get a couple of games in a week.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:55 pmBe nice to get through another round for me and see if we can draw a real big fish - for the money and just for a fun away trip. And then yeah, we can start thinking about a bigger name - the top seven enter at Third Round (making up a last 32).

Also its bonkers that people seem to be voting for anyone other than MJ for man of the match last night. Williams was our standout (as I often find him to be) and I am scared we have absolutely nobody else like him.
I think he's easily able to play in the championship - real quality in all aspects. His passing was absolutely outstanding.

He kept it on the ground and put it near the corner. Not the best but certainly not the waist high no hopers you see from England players often. I'd say they were 5 good penalties. Keeper went right way for Baka's but couldn't stop it. I'd say that's fine.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 3:13 pmCouldn't go last night, think BEN described it as "coolly rolled it in"...having now seen it, that wasn't what I was expecting

Wasn't convinced by Sarc when he stepped up. Rate him as a player and love his character but think he's not great technically.
Ha! What a fecking pen.

Well, yeah. Just the text didn't convey what I've just watched...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 3:19 pmHe kept it on the ground and put it near the corner. Really? I think he's very technically gifted. Odd how people see things differently.
All 5 looked confident stepping up which was great to see.

Stats from last night. Passing much more evenly spread around the back four - although Flash was much more accurate than Gethin.

^^I'd say because Gethin raided forward at every opportunity and Gordon was far more cautious.
Gordon is an interesting one because he had a solid enough game last night but I feel he's still not quite at the pace and intensity for this level and often Santos was barking at him because positionally he seemed to not really know where he had to be in defence.
I think he's got some great attributes and his recovery is top drawer - the best we've seen since Ricardo Gardner. But he still needs something extra I think. Just a bit more oomph in how he plays. Its a bit like he's in 2nd gear and scared to move out of it.
EDIT: As I typed this an interview from IE came out where he says LG needs to believe in himself more. Think that probably sums it up - from where I was sat.

His first touch is usually knee height And I don't think he's great at the technical stuff in tight spaces, quite often snatches at shots etcBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 3:35 pmReally? I think he's very technically gifted. Odd how people see things differently.

It's all relative, this is probably the best group we've had technically in a long time, and he probably just isn't quite at the level (though he has plenty other attributes) as say Lee or Sheehan.
They all have weaknesses to some degree (or they wouldn't be here). MJ for example is probably a bit more pace and athleticism away from being a top half Champo player.
