"Here we go a Wandering amongst the leaves so green...."..Will we have a recognisable team, or a surprise packet lot (unlikely). We do have a Fossey and a Dion and a few heads or tails from a fitness point of view. It's crunch time now as we really do need a win or two...Can we start being the one and onlies tomorrow? Off we go then...

We know what they're about. If they want it more than us they'll take it. If we can match them for work rate and desire we've a chance.
Their 3-3 with Sunderland was a proper game of footy. Hopefully it's a banger of a game and a win for us.

Sounds like Fossey may make way for a Gethin Jones return, but looking forward to a first look at Charles. Midfield reinforcement will come too late for this one, although Lee should be back alongside Williams, which is much needed against a strong side.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:25 pm"Here we go a Wandering amongst the leaves so green...."..Will we have a recognisable team, or a surprise packet lot (unlikely). Did Evatt say today that Geth was in the reserves to get fitness and not up for a full game yet?

I'm hoping the physical and emotional strain of their match on Saturday might leave them with a bit of a hangover against us.

I’m hoping we fecking smash them, we’re desperate for a win. Goal for Charlie boy would be nice.

Possibly, just saw something about being fit again and assumed. Interested to see Fossey anyway.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:32 pmDid Evatt say today that Geth was in the reserves to get fitness and not up for a full game yet?

Be surprised if he risks Gethin. Fossey deserves another game, for me. His pace might also push their LWB backwards.

Yeah he’s supposedly playing against Accrington for the reserves according to the club website.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:32 pmDid Evatt say today that Geth was in the reserves to get fitness and not up for a full game yet?

We've got to stand up to their physicality first. Then bamboozle them with our flowing football.

We played really well in the reverse fixture. If we play to that level again we can definitely get something out of the game.
Don’t exactly know what the latest is on player availability, but I’ll guess the below team:
Dixon
Fossey Santos Aimson John
Lee Williams
Dapo
Kachunga Charles Amaechi
I’d play Dapo at 10 to avoid having to start Thomason, but I suspect we might see a trio of MJ, Lee and GT.

A point would be reasonable. A win great. I think it’s crucially important we don’t lose given the bottom 4 moved considerably closer in our absence and we want to kick off this period well.
The Mickey Mouse cup outing was a shambles but our home form is better so let’s hope we turn up, dig in and get something tonight. I think we can but it will be a big effort. I fear for us more though if we don’t.

I think a 1-1 draw that some will see as heartening and some as precipitous. This season's Exeter.

We need an edge..We've got some players in addition to our own, and most of our troubles, like it or no, seem to have grown since the departure of Sarcevic. I admit I'm not best qualified these days to analyse the problems fully, but nobody sees to have really stepped up to the plate and taken responsibility as a leader by example.(I'll happily be wrong). As a squad (Covid apart which has been a significant factor ) we're not that much different from when we were winning; or at least performing better. Just maybe a decent win can tip the balance our way. Sure hope so, starting tonight, so...

I don't mean the result as much as the performance. I remember Exeter last year looking to me like a bright spot and a corner turned but plenty were down in the dumps about the performance.
I think we'll see some green shoots but still some problems and where you start from will probably influence which stand out more.

Come now chap, both you and I have been around long enough to know: never underestimate the ability to complain.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:53 amA draw would be a good result. Doubt anyone would complain other than those who seriously think we are going to make the playoffs.
...and Sheehan, who'd contributed more goals from fewer minutes (including scoring in our win in the game before his knee-knack) despite playing in a deeper position... and Bakayoko, who was also injured soon afterwards and had scored in our win in the league game before his injury...TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:01 amWe need an edge..We've got some players in addition to our own, and most of our troubles, like it or no, seem to have grown since the departure of Sarcevic
I've agreed we need more leadership types, but I'm very wary of oversimplifying the narrative to Sarce Left And We Collapsed. Correlation is not causation and our collapse was due to a lot of factors, of which Sarcevic's toy depramming was only one. (One more stat: in the last three league games Sarce was at the club we got zero goals and zero points. In the first three after he left we got four goals and four points.)
Interesting comparison. Exeter was away, though, and this will be played out under the gaze of many more Wanderers. Some will be discontented (even with a draw) and, as usual, discontent will be louder than quiet acknowledgement of some (any!) improvement. (Also worth noting that before really getting rolling, we only got one point from the two games after Exeter, although one of those games was Tranmere where Delaney and the ref combined for a slapstick clownshow that's only amusing in post-promotion retrospect.)
Exeter was, though, the first time we switched to a back four from the start.

We are in a relegation battle. We need points over nice performances and no points. From now till the end of the season the only thing that matters is the result after the FT whistle. I’m not interested in green shoots and no points.
All that matters to the football club is the result now. It will be the same for Evatt. There is no grace period anymore. It’s a results business and a draw tonight would be good. Id say we need that at least.
Never beaten Wycombe apparently so tonight would be as good a time to correct that too, if we can.

Yep, it's where we, IMO, started to fix the big problems by taking the first steps (shape) but still early in the process that culminated in the signings and that run.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:35 amCome now chap, both you and I have been around long enough to know: never underestimate the ability to complain.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:53 amA draw would be a good result. By analogy I think we'll take some steps to fix the big problems (this will be the first league game with a specialist RB since the number of No10 lockdown-breaking parties the UK public knew of was zero, and we'll likely have a full 2/3rds of a midfield, all specialists, plus Charles) but still with more signings and more big steps to make.
Green shoots tonight.

Good point. Geth's last game was Sheffield Wednesday, back in November. We were unlucky to lose that day and we'd won three of our previous five league games.
