In other news Josh Magennis has joined Wigan for a sum of money. Hopefully he does as bad for them as he did for us.

Evatt:
No, we’ll not be recalling Dennis. We have other targets, we have other forward options and we offered Dennis a contract, he didn’t sign the contract so we’ve drawn a line under that one and we’ll move on.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Sounds like Evatt didn't want to guarantee him first team football and we made a relatively derisory offer for his services (given he was out injured) as opposed to the contract we would've given him off the back of his earlier performances. Team and player didn't see eye to eye so no agreement and off the wage books from the looks of it.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:56 pmEvatt:

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Sounds pretty definitive. It's a shame, as I always want academy lads to get a shot here; but he turned down a deal at the value the club set. Doesn't really matter now, as it sounds like we've cut him loose.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Yeah, suspect he would've been considered cut loose.
I wonder if Gilks has retired given we've got extra bodies in and the quotes coming from James Trafford doesn't cover him by name. Although it does mention a Matty, presumed Alexander but might be Gilks.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
I am a little bit worried about Evatts definitive attitude to falling out with players. We’ve got the man formerly known as Nathan delfonso as first reserve at the moment - even if there’s no quick resolution with the contract I’d of made him and had him back here as another body. We paid to fix him after all.

In the same interview Evatt says we have players coming in for his position, so presumably Evatt feels those are better options.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:22 pmI am a little bit worried about Evatts definitive attitude to falling out with players. Ultimately, if we were to get Dempsey and Shipley that's two lads who most watchers view as being able to cut it in the Championship or at least at the top level of League One players.
I really, really wanted Dennis to get a go - but he's a long way from proving he's that level.

That's all well and good - and I do agree with you - but we could really have done with him being an option on Saturday. He could've been on our substitutes' bench, the others won't be.

Yeah, I don't disagree with that; but then he's here for the rest of the season and likely not playing. That causes issues in the dressing room.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:43 pmThat's all well and good - and I do agree with you - but we could really have done with him being an option on Saturday. Short term it might not be ideal, but over a season I struggle to see how Evatt's wrong on this.
We may be losing a very talented youth product, though. I can't say I like that.

Agree with Evatt. Politic has an offer. Didn’t want it. He’s playing in league two and not a first team regular.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:56 pmEvatt:

The kids on twitter will be furious but Politic isn’t the answer and has what the club deemed a fair offer and didn’t want it. We move on.

Agreed. I’m saying I would do things differently but if we get the right bodies in and results turn that’s all I want!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:27 pmIn the same interview Evatt says we have players coming in for his position, so presumably Evatt feels those are better options.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:22 pmI am a little bit worried about Evatts definitive attitude to falling out with players. Biggest issue for me is the dressing room, which has been through a lot this season.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:49 pmAgreed. I’m saying I would do things differently but if we get the right bodies in and results turn that’s all I want!
If we went back to Dennis and doubled his offer, say, what does Evatt then tell the other young lads who did sign their deals when they knock on his door?
"Sorry, suckers!"?

Different to Sarce, for me, this one. Assume Evatt has given the best offer he wants to. Politic thinks he can do better. That's life.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:56 pmBiggest issue for me is the dressing room, which has been through a lot this season.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:49 pmAgreed. Of course I'll revisit this when he commands his first £10m transfer fee and Evatt will be a clueless fcukwit.

I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to send him back to Port Vale later in the month (unless there's a FIFA/FA regulation prventing it from happening).
If the decision had been made to part ways, as I suspected it had, I can understand why he won't be recalled. If the decision had been made because we might shortly sign better players I'd take issue with it because the main argument in support of recalling Politic is he'd be available to us now, before any new signings arrive.

It's very different from the Sarce issue, yeah; but it's still not something we want around (an unhappy player, brought in to cover one or two games).Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:16 pmDifferent to Sarce, for me, this one. Squad harmony is huge. It will have taken a massive knock with Sarce's explosion and the Doyle going.
We are short on confidence, we don't also need disruption. Politic obviously backs himself and I support that in a player, but it means I doubt he'd take kindly to being a reserve.
If you start to see lads like Shipley some in the Politic isn't getting many minutes. Delf can presumably be relied upon not to rock the boat, which is valuable in back up.

I suppose he could tell them to go out on loan and earn a better one. Ultimately though, it'd probably only affect Darcy and at this current moment in time I think he'll likely just be grateful he ever had a contract offer to sign.
It's a shame Politic has no future here but if the transfer window goes as well as we hope it will he'll be forgotten soon enough.

We just have to see how it goes.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:27 pmIt's a shame Politic has no future here but if the transfer window goes as well as we hope it will he'll be forgotten soon enough.
I will always, always want academy players to have a path into the first team. I was hoping Politic would be one could make it here.
Evatt has shown he will give young players a chance. Age is no barrier here. We offered Politic a deal and he turned it down. That's that.
All I'm worried about right now is winning football matches.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Obviously I wish Trafford well for him as well as us, but it does seem a bit like reckless doubling down by Evatt. If it goes wrong I hope its him who gets the flak not the young lad.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Presumably City expect him to get some game time? What was the name of the young keeper we had on loan from Burnley last year who never even got on the bench?
