Iles now confirming "an offer has gone in" for Bodvarsson. Loan to end of season but seems to require Millwall to pay a slice of his salary.

Don’t sub. Is it a permie or a loan?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 4:42 pmIles now confirming "an offer has gone in" for Bodvarsson.

He was always the name that seemed likeliest out of the ones floated earlier. Not necessarily exciting but let’s see what happens.

As I say, it seems to require Millwall subsidising some of his salary. They might be happy for us to take any of it on, but it might depend if we have rivals.

Thanks. Happier with a loan than a permanent signing here. Mind we’ve usually don’t well with Icelanders…Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 4:56 pmLoan - I edited while you were postingBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 4:52 pmDon’t sub. I too would prefer a loan than permanent in this instance.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 4:58 pmHappier with a loan than a permanent signing here. Mind we’ve usually don’t well with Icelanders…
Bod's 30 in May – he was born four days before Rioch took over – so he's not a kid with resale value, and therefore I'm in no rush to protect future earnings by committing to a long contract (cf Aaron Morley). Fine with a permanent move and six-month contract, if that suits all parties. Either way, if he plays well, we can talk again in the summer, but by then we may also have other options to assess. Rebuilding is a rolling process.

Does the signing of Bodvarsson indicate a return to two up front?
Charles will clearly start and I can't imagine we'd pay what I expect is a fairly healthy wage to Boddy simply to add squad depth.

Although, if that were to happen it would surely necessitate a switch back to a back three and I can't see where the likes of Dapo, Xav and Kachunga fit in.

Perhaps. Or perhaps it offers options to rotate in the front three and have different types of strikers.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 5:25 pmDoes the signing of Bodvarsson indicate a return to two up front?

Yes, that's probably more likely. Two either side of him.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Apparently he also plays on the right. Could have SKD on the left vibes? Can't be any worse than Baka out there.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 5:28 pmAlthough, if that were to happen it would surely necessitate a switch back to a back three and I can't see where the likes of Dapo, Xav and Kachunga fit in.

Nah, signed a keeper who conceded loads and a striker who never scores. Be reet!

Iles' bit seems to indicate we've missed our top targets and Bod is a reaction to the Kachunga injury.

I don't read it that way at all, mate. Says "plans changed" but only in the sense of increasing urgency. I don't get the impression we're on Plan D.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 8:37 pmIles' bit seems to indicate we've missed our top targets and Bod is a reaction to the Kachunga injury.

That sounds very much like missing out on a primary. Not just one of the lads we drew up months ago, but someone where the player and club had both given us the nod. As Evatt says, that can happen, but even in January that's unusual. Usually the failure is some point before all parties have agreed that the move works. One player we wanted from August and tried to get again at the start of this window was told he was available, available, available, then Bolton want you, then you’re not available. That happens, sometimes.
With the Covid situation clubs are trying to hang on to their squad depth in case the worst happens and they need to change things around.
The two we are trying to bring in now hopefully won’t suffer for that and we can get them in the building to make us better.
Covid is making clubs shy.
