Looks like Conway, Seens and Lockett are hanging round. Shame for Mitch, but I'm sure he'll find a club.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Slightly surprised, given how frequently he was pressed into service on the bench before the turn of the year. Moved like Road Runner when he got a chance on the pitch - full of pace, never seemed to stop. Hope he doesn't have to drop too far down the ladder to find a club.
But then, I suppose to not get a deal even to fill our new 2nd String must speak volumes about where the Powers That Be view his current and future ability. Can't say I'm too broken up about it.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
I think we probably have to look at it in terms where they expect the club to be by the time he'd have been ready for first team football, unless there was a personality clash somewhere.
The B Team doesn't need to produce League One payers, it needs to produce (at minimum) Championship players.
It's a bit like people demanding to know why Morley was let go when we've had to bring him back for money.....but he's not a Premier League player even now. The bar is going to be raised every season, or so we hope.

If it doesn't 2-3 years from now then we're definitely in some bother.

Morecambe and Shrewsbury the first L1 teams to release their retained lists. Can’t be long before ours is announced, could be today.

Yeah, mentioned Morecambe last night on the Transfers thread in case we thought any of ‘em were of interest. I see your suggestion Nurse is still under contract at Shrews, but then again you already wrote thatbrommers95 wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:21 amMorecambe and Shrewsbury the first L1 teams to release their retained lists. Baptiste wants to play on, although he acknowledges it might not be here.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Love Baptiste, but if we were to give him a new contract I think I'd react very poorly. I thought retaining Tutte was an awful call last summer, a contract for the sake of it - to avoid paying for a proper signing.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:37 amBaptiste wants to play on, although he acknowledges it might not be here.

I very much doubt he's staying here.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Reading between the lines it does sound like he’ll be playing elsewhere next season. Could probably still do a job for a L2 side, but maybe not up to playing 46 90s.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:37 amBaptiste wants to play on, although he acknowledges it might not be here.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
If we are giving the likes of Tutte and Baptiste contracts then it would look very very ropey indeed. I can’t for one second imagine we would other than in Baps case in some sort of coaching capacity. But sounds like he’d rather go and play somewhere so good luck to him. But if he can’t get fixed up he can come back here as a coach no doubt.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:39 amLove Baptiste, but if we were to give him a new contract I think I'd react very poorly. Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Aye, Evatt was talking about the possibility of him becoming a coach, and I think we all assumed he'd slip straight into that.
If he leaves and Santos does too, there's a couple of gaps in the "leadership" group. Not that that is a reason to keep him on contract and occupying a squad space - unless he maybe becomes captain of the B team and not on the A-register?

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
I feel like there's a lot more character in the side after January. We've a few now who will fight tooth and claw for a win and take no prisoners. We lack tone-setters before, but that's no longer the case. The "leadership group" has a lot more depth now.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
This, absolutely. Also, I thought the idea of putting Baptiste on for the last five minutes on Saturday was just one of those 'wave farewell' things anyway (something which I see wasn't afforded young Lingard down the way there).GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:39 am

Evatt said not - something about shoring up the defence and Johnston having a knock.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:27 pmThis, absolutely. Evatt did say that about Saturday but I think he’s saving face. Baps is off, League two or possibly even the one below on a decent wage?? Fair play if so.

No problem - here's the link and quote. As Dibs says it may be face-saving.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 1:05 pmReally? fair enough. I haven't read a single report re Saturday, by the way, so excuse th'ignoranceDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:51 pm

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... ned-today/He is hugely experienced but, honestly, it was nothing to do with sentiment. It was more about seeing the game out and winning, having the experience he provides to enable us to do that. He organises people around him and young George had some cramp, so Baps comes on and organises things, manages the game for us. He has been a huge player behind the scenes, a huge player on the pitch for us in the last couple of years and I can’t speak highly enough of Alex, he knows exactly what I think of him.
We have all been focussed on the job and making sure we finish strongly. I will speak with every player on Monday – but I think he has far too much to offer this sport to walk away from it. We will see what discussions take place and what happens, but as a person his knowledge and his personality is excellent so he has a lot to offer this sport, going forwards.

And here we go. As expected. Alongside confirmation Xav ain’t coming back (not sure that was unexpected at all either).
