TBF re Kirchoff, not sure I got the logic then, either...but having a player on the books like that (we stuck with Mavies quite a while), but I'm not sure you'd want too many more than one...and if your second pick is a long way off the capability of the crock, it doesn't often end well with the fans...

Daft but it’s Blackpool. Bad career move but you never know in football.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 5:45 pmSomewhat surprisingly to me, Neil Critchley leaves Blackpool for Villa, where he'll replace new QPR manager Michael Beale as the brains behind Stevie Me's concrete hairdo.
Blackpool will surely ask about Evatt, but IMO he'd be daft to consider it. They're in the division above but we have more headroom, as well as bread buttered to his taste.

Rob Holding may be on the move this summer, possibly as a make-weight in a deal. Arsenal will owe us money, if so.
The current suggestion is Fulham may want him.

Really? I thought Ken waived/cashed in the sell on rights not long afterwards.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:24 pmRob Holding may be on the move this summer, possibly as a make-weight in a deal. Arsenal will owe us money, if so.

My understanding was that we were paid for two of three clauses; was that not correct?Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:46 pmReally? I thought Ken waived/cashed in the sell on rights not long afterwards.

I'm pretty sure I thought we'd sold it, then saw something to suggest we were still owed something. Happy to help.

Yeah I thought we sold the bonus clauses but not the sell on %. But I've slept since.

I think we can safely say "we might or might not get something"

Fossey now the subject of formal approaches from Championship clubs. That's new and something that wasn't the case just over a week ago.

Think that’s that then. Has that FGR lad ended up anywhere? He seemed an obvious second choice.

True. I was in the same boat re Kirchoff. I think it really depends on whether you have spare squad spaces and the wage isn't high.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 6:45 pmTBF re Kirchoff, not sure I got the logic then, either...but having a player on the books like that (we stuck with Mavies quite a while), but I'm not sure you'd want too many more than one...and if your second pick is a long way off the capability of the crock, it doesn't often end well with the fans...
The Emile Heskey signing was one where I really didn't see the point. Perhaps for comedic value?
Suppose the most common example of crock but potentially worth the risk would be picking up Daniel Sturridge at the moment.

Be disappointing not to get Fossey but the lads well above league one level in fairness.
But if we don’t then it’s imperative we find a wing back with the same pace and strength and drive down the line. We don’t want more pedestrian wing backs. Lightning pace and direct play are essentials. We don’t absolutely don’t need another Declan John on the other side. System wouldn’t work.

While agreeing with your general drift, I feel impelled to point out that nobody got more assists for us last season than Declan John (7). Seemed to work to me.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 8:57 amBe disappointing not to get Fossey but the lads well above league one level in fairness.

That’s fine and I’m not about replacing him. My point is the whole system relies on the balance Fossey offered with his attributes and looked decidedly worse when he wasn’t there to the point I’d argue we looked better with a four.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 9:06 amWhile agreeing with your general drift, I feel impelled to point out that nobody got more assists for us last season than Declan John (7). Not interested in two wing backs who turn around it will make the system negative and frustrating.
Absolute pace and ability tied to it and strength are imperatives for me. Otherwise switch system.

I think he’s off to Bristol City but nothing’s been announced yet.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 7:16 amThink that’s that then. Has that FGR lad ended up anywhere? He seemed an obvious second choice.

Worth noting that it's not a case of "a Championship club is offering me a contract, I'm off" with Fossey. Yeah, it's bad that formal approaches have been made and it's certainly a sign that we've not been able to get him to commit - which I think many had hoped. However, he's leaving one Champ/Prem club for a basic reason - lack of football. The lad wants to play and if our proposal is better on that front he may well still come here.
There's no wrapping this up as a good thing. If the clubs include Wigan, Blackburn and Preston, as is rumoured, then he may well get the playing time he craves. If it's further the case that Fossey's agents have done some last-minute drumming-up of interest after failing to get bites a month or so ago, that's also concerning. Everything should have been set, so if they're now looking for options that points to a fairly dramatic change somewhere.
This is one of those where you want the blow by blow account that you'll never get.

It does seem to indicate that the previous "it's pretty much done" commentary might have been, it's never done until it's done.

That's always the caveat, isn't it. Nobody is signed until they're holding the shirt and some aren't even signed then. Dan James to Leeds springs to mind.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 11:15 amIt does seem to indicate that the previous "it's pretty much done" commentary might have been, it's never done until it's done.![]()

To your point around we only know what we know, someone's going to be pretty pi$$ed off, if they thought they had all the terms agreed and verbally it was all "on"....GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 11:23 amThat's always the caveat, isn't it. If Fossey is off we want to be looking to convert a proper attacking player to wing back rather than signing a full back. I am concerned that Evatt doesn’t see that the wing back role needs specific characteristics. Sadlier for example is not one. Neither is Iredale. Ever. We need very specific types of a player.
