Re: BWFC Reserves 2021/2022 - Central League
I'm a bit lost here. We seem to be saying that whatever we do, the odds are stacked against us., which I suspect is generally correct. Whilst we might want to try and fight that in the background because it's "unfair," surely we also have to plan for "it is what it is", because that's the prevailing condition?
All things being equal (which they're not) I suspect most parents would likely dispatch their erstwhile sprog to City's academy rather than Bolton's - even if Bolton had a Cat A and City had a Cat B. That might not be the best move for them, but they're after that lottery ticket.
Academies are just a by-product of the impact of money on the game...

B-team pioneers Brentford are… re-opening their Academy.

Only as a Category Four to start with. Why? A few reasons: they have more money now; Brexit is choking their overseas player supply; oh and UEFA don’t let you play in their comps if you don’t have an academy.

Does that mean muppets will now stop saying things like "Why don't we scrap the academy like Brentford did!?" any time the topic comes up? Please god.

Not if they're out on a limb. They'll point to that 3 game unbeaten run in the Prem as hard evidence you don't need one...in fact, if Brentford got second season blues, it would be even more certain..GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 2:24 pmDoes that mean muppets will now stop saying things like "Why don't we scrap the academy like Brentford did!?" any time the topic comes up? I like the sound of some of these lads coming into the B team. Hopefully we’ll unearth a few proper players.
My main concern with this new set-up is the quality of fixtures. Last season was a shambles in that Central league, and we’re not going to achieve much if we’re playing a game every couple of weeks on park pitches again. Let’s hope they’ve given proper thought to the fixture list.
