I could get used to this.
Fitting that Morgan retires as we start fielding a third white ball team.

Ahhhh! Possibly yes.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:34 pmNot quite sure I caught the same "incident" - are you sure they weren't hollering:Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:30 pmNot much of a follower of cricket but have enjoyed the summaries on the news recently. I did catch some of the fourth day highlights on BBC2 yesterday evening though (as Glastonbury was, once again, on BBC1) and heard a load of booing. What was that about? Booing? at Cricket? Is that a thing now?
"Roooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooottttttttttttttttt" ?
Coz I caught a fair bit of that every time Joe hit a boundary....

What a great Monday!
Gotta feel a bit for Bairstow, but tbf Rooty did score two more than him and average 20 more. Not often you're going to average 78.8 in a Test Series and come third in the averages behind Root and a bowler!

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeee
It’s a bit mad that we’ve just made a day 4 and 5 chase of near 300 look like nothing. Normal test cricket and 280 plus is heavily in the bowling sides favour, probably a one in ten chance of chasing it.
But we’ve just knocked off 250 plus last innings three times in a row. From a team that previously before this series might well have seen itself scoring 250 runs total for an entire test match across two innings, let alone knocking off those totals fourth innings to win.
An incredible change. Against one of the best sides in the world. Let’s be fair NZ are a bowler or two short here. But still.

A bit late to the party as I misjudged the weather. Just fantastic stuff with Men of the Match rather than man. Great from Jack Leach, the quiet man, and they should give him a special trophy. Root Bairstow, Stokes ,Overton etc etc. Where do you stop. Great team show all round.

To call it a '3-0 whitewash' is thoroughly disingenuous. It's been an enthralling series.

As good a series as you will see that ends up 3-0. Cracking from both sides. I just wish NZ had a proper spinner to play as that might have tested us more.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:29 pmTo call it a '3-0 whitewash' is thoroughly disingenuous. It's been an enthralling series.

Not to dampen the mood, but this England team really do need to get more inventive with their nicknames.
Stokes' post-match interview today contained references to "Pottsy, Popey, Leachy, Broady and Rooty". Bairstow gave an interview at the end of the previous test match and praised both "Stokesy and Foulkesy".
Come on, lads.

Oh, I dunno,I reckon they tested us quite enough as was. Would you rather we had lost?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 8:17 pm

They did, Tango, but I also understand perfectly what Insane's saying. Despite him having us on the rack, a lot of Trent Boult's bowling was nothing other than a pure pleasure to watch. I'm not Zak Crawley's biggest fan, but I don't think that there's a batsman alive who could've dealt with that delivery from Boult in the first innings.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:15 pmOh, I dunno,I reckon they tested us quite enough as was. I know we now speak as victors, but there's something about seeing your own cricketers being tested to the max and seeing how well they cope with it, and NZ are short of a decent spinner.

They were also short of a non-spin bowler on a couple of occasions through injuries to de Grandhomme in the first test and Jamieson in the second, reducing them to three front line bowlers which is a fairly significant workload shift.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 9:40 amThey did, Tango, but I also understand perfectly what Insane's saying. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Stokes has to just tweak his game a little. There is being aggressive and there is just offering up catching practice. Dropped twice then caught with the most difficult chance of the three. But still that’s 3 ‘wickets’ for his 25. Just needs a bit of a rethink to re assess the risk reward balance. I don’t want England to go into their shell but at 140 for 5 I think he needed to just let himself feel more comfortable before trying to leather it all round.
