Grim perhaps, and the Winter of our discontent looms, but that's what we have now and is it/can it be/ any worse than what we've had? We have little choice in the matter, so give it a chance before you get the tar and feathers out.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 10:25 pmCrikey what a grim cabinet. Pitchforks at dawn anyone?

They’ve had twelve years and put us in this mess. They’ve had a ridiculous amount of chances. Time was up long ago.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 10:33 pmGrim perhaps, and the Winter of our discontent looms, but that's what we have now and is it/can it be/ any worse than what we've had? Re: The Politics Thread
The record for the "worst holders of the four offices of state" has been smashed on a seemingly weekly basis for the last 7 years, but even so that's a new low. Christ alive. At "pretty shit" Kwarteng is a god amongst men.

Re: The Politics Thread
So what do you (realistically) suggest we do? I ( a lifetime Labour supporter) am not defending or disagreeing with what you say, and talking history and past tense may well add to the scores, but this cabinet haven't had twelve hours yet and your views won't change reality. If you can effect change, then become an M.P and get on with it. Meanwhile, as my electric meter ticks relentlessly on and everything is dearer then yesterday, throwing literal imaginary stones at the door of No 10 will achieve what exactly?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 10:43 pmThey’ve had twelve years and put us in this mess. It’s not like this is new. These are almost all people who have been in the last cabinet. And in many cases the one before that.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 8:55 amSo what do you (realistically) suggest we do? They’ve failed. All we can realistically do is wait till they grant us a chance for ‘our say’ and boot them out.
However I’d be be that shocked to see millions refuse to pay their bills this winter and potentially civil unrest. People have had enough. I’d not advocate for either but it’s where we’ve been driven to.

They will cap it all by just enough to avoid this, pretend they're being ace and helping us all and then feck us over with the bill later. It wont be the ones making excess profits funding it. She'll cut taxes, blame labour and the turkeys will vote for Christmas again and another 5 years of the same.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 9:27 amHowever I’d be be that shocked to see millions refuse to pay their bills this winter and potentially civil unrest. Re: The Politics Thread
They will cap it for sure but the country’s mood has changed and we see polling suggesting over 80% want windfall taxes on oil and gas companies to pay it. There is also huge support for nationalisation.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 9:51 amThey will cap it all by just enough to avoid this, pretend they're being ace and helping us all and then feck us over with the bill later. I get the cynicism but I detect a real sea change in the public opinion. People are fed up. People I know who are normally not at all political and don’t bother much with news are in enough is enough.
Like I say the political pendulum swings slowly but almost always does swing eventually.

How long do we give them? Our new health secretary has kicked off talking about how the majority of primary care is done by doctors, dentists……. And chiropractors!?
At least do some basic research into the department you’re now in charge of before you head infront of the cameras with your great claims of how youre going to fix things.

As delighted as I am to see Priti Patel resign, I also feel that she owes us an explanation as to just what the feck it is that she's been doing for the past three years. I can't think of a single other politician in my adult lifetime who's talked so much and delivered so little.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 10:25 pmCrikey what a grim cabinet. Re: The Politics Thread
But none of it is action. It's a massive talkathon of intent without result. It's not as if any of it is new happenings. It's a bit like all these "experts" advising folk what to do in case of a blackout, for example. How many of them have ever actually seen a blackout? How many of them will be working by candle light or putting extra sweaters on to keep warm, or turning lights off to keep bill down? Talk, talk and more talk insulting what is basically common sense anyway. In all this, are the new lot any different/worse than your self-confessed history of political disaster? Can it actually get much worse?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 11:14 am

I'll sit back and wait right now, and so will you, because there are no alternatives. Talk is just snake-oil medicine in a fancy wrapper. Get on with it.

I’m not sure what you are asking. The action we have available to us is at the ballot box when we are allowed to.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 11:48 amBut none of it is action. Everyone will have a choice to make. It was laid out quite clearly just now. Truss wants us to pay the bill. Labour want the huge companies making massive profits to take some of the hit.
People get to make the choice.
I did like truss describing the oil and gas companies making £160Bn in excess (yes on top of) profits in these two years as ‘aspiration’. Good luck with that love. Don’t think you quite get it.

If I understand this right, your response to lack of action TD, is to sit back and wait? That's cunning!

Re: The Politics Thread
I'll take advice on it if you have some Worthy , and well, I could put a cross on a piece of paper when the time comes to vote, but even 221B is a more believable number than 10 right now. As Jane Austen put it “Life seems nothing more than a quick succession of busy nothings.”. On with the motley...Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 12:48 pmIf I understand this right, your response to lack of action TD, is to sit back and wait? That's cunning!![]()

" May and Truss celebrate third Conservative woman PM" ...B.B.C.News.
Celebrating what exactly, A new P.M, a Conservative or its a woman? Hope it's the first, because the second will be immaterial in winning or failing, and the third, well that might be seen as a an "ism" in some quarters. Just commenting...

So, I've just been looking through Truss's cabinet and generally nodding until we get to ' Jacob Rees-Mogg, business, energy and industrial strategy secretary' He's a climate change denier!
